I've been shopping at the store since the day they opened ..the store is very clean, always fully stocked, and the people are always helpful and friendly... can't say enough good things about this store...
Don't use the Starbucks in Safeway, the employees don't know how to make drinks plus they overcharge. I ordered a Tall coffee with cream which is normally $2.95. She charged me $4.25 and said the cream is Breve and insisted she is right. Meanwhile I've ordered Starbucks for probably longer she's been alive and drink it 3-4x/week. That place is a joke, never going back to their "coffee" section. Safeway the store itself is actually decent and shop there a few times a month.
For the third year in a row our local Prunedale Safeway has forgotten to stock Bell's Seasoning.. a holiday staple seasoning for many of us. Locals shouldn't have to use a gallon of gas to drive into Salinas for this fine old product.
Bought salad with expiration date of 3/22 earlier in week. Opened it on 3/20 to eat. Iceberg lettuce was already turning brown. It looked nothing like the picture showing a great looking salad. Would've taken it back to the store but we were eating it for lunch after an appt at Stanford Hospital. Don't recommend Safeway premade salad bowls. (BTW hubby's different salad was the same way except for 3/25 expiration date). Additional info: As I finished, the last few bites, I bit down on a piece of bone in the meat. (See photo😡).
Chances are they’ll have what you need. Odds are the store will be clean. The employees are usually polite. The lines aren’t usually bad unless you go between 4 and 7pm. The produce is usually fresh. There’s usually plenty of parking. However…. Safeway has made their coupon process, especially online coupons, so convoluted that the only safe way to ensure you don’t get swindled out of your savings is to shop elsewhere. My last four visits, I did not receive the discounts advertised for some reason or another. Maybe it is my error in the fact that there are multiple hoops to jump through to receive all coupons, but that just makes their entire shopping experience feel like work, not to mention that it explicitly demonstrates just how much their markups are. I’ve only two local sources for grocery shopping and one is Safeway. I am probably their prime target because despite the elevated prices and continued lack of receiving the coupon pricing they advertise IN STORE, I’ll go back simply because it is convenient. Ethically, it seems wrong to me to make your patrons jump through multiple hoops for coupon pricing, whether an online coupon, app coupon, or in store coupon. Be good to the patrons that support your business and make the process simplified.
We stopped in to pick up a few things. Of course you can never just get a few things when you stop in for just a few things. We did however divide and conquer it's always nice when you have multiple people. We can do that. We did like this Safeway store; it's not a new store, but they do keep it clean and it is fairly well stocked. The produce is fresh and they do have an excellent selection of organic produce. I LIKE THAT! We got some great produce today. I especially went looking for some beautiful blackberries for my grandchildren and got some organic blackberries that were just bar none beautiful, beautiful. The grocery carts are nice and clean; and that's a good thing because many grocery stores have carts that are just gross. The people here are also so helpful and friendly. I don't find that unusual for a grocery store. It seems like many grocery stores hire the best people. I guess that's a good thing since grocery stores are in the people business. This is a pretty good Safeway, I definitely would come back to it. Although I don't live here I frequent this area since it's on the way to my granddaughter's house and I like to stop and pick up goodies to bring to them. OK Safeway I'll see you again soon.

Store has a lot of various items and choices. Prices have unfortunately sky rockeyed due to inflation, so shopping trips at this point are a nightmare on the wallet. Lines arent so bad now thanks to self checkout, so you wont have to wait too long to ring up your items. Also service animal friendly.
Workers are always happy to help you if you cant find an item!!

Fine selection of different foods that are fresh. The different varieties are difficult to find in other stores.
Quite possibly the worst place to shop especially at night. I literally just had to take a picture to prove that they had an item on sale and it was clearly marked throughout the aisle. Rather than arguing with a customer why dont you just take their word for it and ring them up versus sending them on some photo taking shopping spree to save 50 cents it was quite ridiculous. It just seems like the night staff doesnt have any organization and the customer service is very lacking this is why I go out of my way to shop at grocery Outlet when it all possible

This place is good as it gets when it comes to grocery stores. Not much expected when it comes to the grab and go concept which is why my review is a one star. A one star because when you re a grocery store and there are many grocery stores like yours what is supposed to be the difference in a customers choice is the bond the workers create with their regulars. I ve never felt so insecure and small at a place a such when a worker has stopped into with me and I have to find out out the hard way that they were told by management that they can t be engage with customers unless they re being asked for a product. This store has lost my trust. Like Isaid not much to be expected but definitely not the friendly store I thought it was.

We love this location. Special kudos to the meat dept. The staff has always been super friendly and will go out of their way to get you what you need. Great job guys. The whole team in that dept is fantastic. Keep it up.

Listed as open 24/7. They are not. A person said they put in a work order to update their hours a couple months ago. It takes 5 minutes to update that.

We stopped in for a deli sandwich which was $8 for a small. Before we could check out every register in the store crashed and there was no contingency plan beyond calling corporate. We just walked out and ate at McDonalds
This is a smaller Safeway and it often doesnt have products that bigger Safeways do. It also doesnt have things like cream soda or is out of specialty sodas. All Safeways are expensive, at least double what youd pay at Walmart and this ones no different. Sometimes it feels like a waste of time to shop here (when I cant find things). Other times its the only store in town I will go to. The people are nice though.

Can get most groceries here. People very friendly and helpful. Update: larger Latina woman in the deli is rude. Asked for the person who was making the sandwiches to open the pita pocket and put the filling inside but she kept stopped him saying we dont do that repeatedly and refused to allow him to do so. This is not the first time we have asked for this and others have willingly helped us. Everyone else at this location has been very friendly and helpful.

Small store with narrow isles. I was there on New Years Eve so it was crowded but they had all the check out lanes open. And the store was still well stocked.

Great service, a very nice grocery store. Im on a road trip at the moment and there is usually a safe way nearby that I can count on for good healthy food (restaurants are fun but always a bit hit or miss).
The lady in the meat department was really rude today . I wish I would have gotten her name but she shouldn t be hard to find she s the only lady in the meat department I asked her for a different piece of meat because the one I showed her had to much fat she then took the meat from me and went to the back and unpacked the same meat and just flipped it over and re packaged it like I wasn t going to notice when I got home. And on top of that she added 3 dollars more to the price. That s just rude how hard is it to just grab another piece of meat maybe this type of Job isn t for her she doesnt know how to act with customers. This is really disrespectful to say the least. But I would like her to know that I know what she did and its not okay get your act together grown lady. Lady in the Meat department deserves zero stars

The Safeway here in Hollister their staff theyre everybody is great the Starbucks in here is great everybody is great in this place they are willing to help for you this is one of the greatest safe ways in the Hollister

Safeway has become Ludacris. Dont fall for their business model. They up ALL the prices, so that when you see their member price and supposed deals, you want to think that you actually are getting a deal. But that is just not the case. Unless you go on Friday and they actually happen to have some Friday deals left, save your money and shop elsewhere.

Thank you for taking my feedback. I over reacted on the rating. It is still the worst layout, but the salads and sandwiches we bought were good. Changed to 4. Literally the worst layed out Safeway Ive ever been to. Couldnt find anything easily. Peanut butter is in the deli. Couldnt find the premade coffees. Couldnt find pretzels (in with the chips) etc. Nothing is standard.
Loved the sales ,however shelves are empty.
Safeway imo has one of the best quality product compared to other super markets. Sure, youre paying a lil extra. But its worth it! Awesome vibe here.

The deli needs to be managed. What other place waits for an item to literally finish in order to start making more? Its a frustrating daily occurrence. They tell you to wait 10 minutes just to tell you some excuse as to why its now going to be at least 15 extra minutes and its always the same 2 individuals working the evening shift. Freaken amateur hour. Get it together guys.

Florist was super helpful and nice. And the self checkout lady made me laugh hell of hard. Made me less mad I was stopping for stuff that wasnt for me.

Constantly out of stock of everything. Even before COVID. COVID just makes it 10 times worse now. Edit 10/5/2022 Wife just got a horrible cashier who didnt even want to be there. She was in such a bad mood my wife thought she was sick. Nope, just hated her job and did nothing to hide it.
Theft prevention needs to be less noticable as a paying customer its extremely off putting as employees follow or watch youre Evey move then follow you down an isle and as you look at or take notice they are following pretend to restock nothing in particular lol still has me going to Safeway in Salinas as this is not an issue there

Excellent customer service and the best quality products my favorite store
I used to love shopping here everyday due to the fact that when I arrive I am in and out with self check out, since I only have a few purchases and come for a 5 minute break. However since the self service checkout is no longer available the wait times are 15 - 25 minutes long. I wouldnt mind it so much if they allowed you to do smaller purchases elsewhere like at Deli, or Bakery but there management policy is against doing anything purchase wise there unless you purchase from that department. I had asked the Cashier today how long it would be until Self Service was open again and he said he didnt know and that it had already happened 4 times. I hope they fix it soon and permanently so I can start shopping here again.
Getting more and more upset with our Prunetucky Safeway. Shelves are routinely empty and stock isnt rotated so watch the shelf dates. Prices are sky high now. Staff and management are always courteous.
The Safeway in Prunedale brings in beautiful, healthy orchids regularly. The bakery has fresh jalapeno cheese bagels to die for ( but get there before noon if you want some) and they make fresh salsa every day. So much good stuff. These are a sample of my favorite things! Worth the trip!

I visited Safeway yesterday 2-23-22. There have been changes in the web site and in the store inself. I was most interested in the produce department and was very disappointed. Some of the vegetables did not look fresh and/or not available. Prices on the produce and other products have had an extreme increase in cost to consumer. The cost of Quaker Oatmeal in the large container was over $7.50, and the most costly on my receipt. In the parking lot quite a few pickup spaces not being used. The web site changes are not helpful to me. I personally want to see the product before I purchase it. Safeway, why the changes? I am decreasing my rating to 2 stars.

Very clean. Staff was super nice. Spoke to the butcher about some meat as there was a cut that I never saw before. He was very helpful. The cashier was nice and friendly. We were in out of the line in 2 minutes.

The mangner wont pay to keep the handicapped carts going half the time theyre not working I have been told he is to cheep to pay to have the plug fixed it interferes with his monthly nice guy.

Its 4:30pm on Christmas Day, and there are over 20 people in every single isle here at the Hollister store. All of the self-service stands are closed, and those of us who are here at this Ungodly time ON CHRISTMAS DAY ARE S.O.L. MERRY CHRISTMAS you filthy Animals.
