I have now stayed here twice and realize it is the best option for us for price vs quality. The area is a little more on the pricy side for a decent stay if you are visiting a student at the college or other reason to be in the area. The hotel itself is basic, the continental breakfast is good with actual hot tray items like eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy. The menu changes depending on the day. Rooms are average with decent amount of ports for charging electronics. The shades are nice for a darker room and our ac/heat unit worked great. Beds are okay but nothing over the top comfortable to boast about. Area is nice with the Marina State Beach within walking distance. Walmart just down the road and close to CSUMB. Parking lot for the hotel is a little tight. Some spots it is even hard to get a small car parked in between other vehicles. You are right off the Pacific Coast Highway so the noise is a little more then some may be used to.

Badly needs maintenance on so many things, shower bathtub fills up despite plug not being pushed down, door frame busted and cracked - you could rip it off by hand if you pulled on the extra safety lock. Stains and marks on walls, poorly functioning soap dispensers in showers - not to mention it being the tiniest bathroom in a hotel I ve ever seen and I ve stayed in cheaper motels in bad areas. Thin walls so you can hear people inside and outside usually so not good if a light sleeper. *Awfully managed* free breakfast with zero staff assisting in the massive line and poor crowded layout - someone assaulted my husband and cursed out the rest of the lobby for having to wait in line. That s what ultimately brings this down to a 1 star. Miserable experience for how much money was spent on the one night stay. What happened to Best Western? Rooms: Needs maintenance, small Food and drinks: Awful free breakfast, AVOID.

BW never disappoints. Perfect room, ok cleaning, fridge, microwave, TV with many channels, all lights working. Bathroom and shower ok, the sink is in the room, in the bathroom only toilet and tub. Perfect breakfast, both sweet and savory and a product is quickly replaced if it runs out. Possibility to make waffles and toast. The only flaw is that the machines outside are all out of order. The parking is convenient and spacious. Perfect location, 300 meters from the highway and 200 from the beach. Courteous staff.

This place was a nightmare! Paid $1850 for 2 rooms 4 nights. We were given dirty floor mats for the bathroom. Television did not work for 2 days of our stay. Mini fridge leaked water all over the floor. House keeping did not come for 2 days until we asked then they showed up at 6 p.m. vending machines did not work and the area where vending was located was full of spider webs in the doorway. The fire pits do not work unless you have your own torch 1 of the 2 will work. But you need your own lighting mechanism. Was also told hotel had no hot water cause house keeping was doing laundry. Maintenance mentioned big inspection coming up. However dont think they can get this place up to par before then. The only thing about this place that was good was it was close to my personal destination. Rooms: Rooms are filthy and house keeping will not come unless you complain to front desk

This place is perfectly fine for one night but too expensive. The room was perfectly fine, good beds and a decent size of the room and clean, but the bathroom needs renovation. Nice lady at the reception when we arrived. The breakfast had little choice and it was cramped and there was little seating. It was quiet and free parking.

Nicest person Ive ever met.

Room itself is acceptable with laminate floor so its not smelly like best western we stayed in other places. the bathroom is so old and look dirty that we decided to not having shower until the next stop. Upon arrival, we checked the bed linen and so dissappointed that they put a worn out, dirty bedsheets for us. I went straight down to the reception and got the new one to change but I have to do it myself, the receptionist didnt offer to send some cleaner to help us at all. Outside the room is full of bird droppings. Its a motel, not a hotel. The wall is super thin that you can hear every single movement from people living nextdoor or even below you. The location is near the beach but doesnt sound to be a safe area as there is nothing around except cheap motels. Breakfast in the morning is very poor and there was always a long queue as the room is too small. For the price that we had to pay which is $453 for 2n for a motel like this is a RIP-OFF would never come back and dont recommend for anyone Safety: Not safe

Well for starters they sold our room.arrived at the location to check in the gentlemen at the front desk said we had no conformation when we had paid our room fully before we got there with booking he told us to look for another hotel to stay couse they had sold out I contacted booking the reservation had been done the hotel had sold our room to someone else but thx to this disgusting hotel booking gave us an upgrade at the ramada wich was way better please dont book this hotel unless you want a headache cause they sold youre room stranded in a city with 2 kids sucks thank you booking for helping us

When first arrived, the reception host says, checking in? Yes. Oh let me see if I have any rooms, I am usually sold out. Without looking me up and knowing I have a pre-paid reservation. Rooms smelled horrible when entered, toilet paper fixture was falling apart, ac was shoddy, bath tub wouldnt drain. At the breakfast area, all the hotel staff was at the front lobby debating how much one should clean compared to their wages. Basically they were not wanting to clean and do a good job because they didnt get paid enough for that. Worst kind of employees. @bestwestern this location is making you look bad.

The gal who checked us in was very kind and personable. I felt comfortable immediately on arrival. Rooms: It s definitely an older building, but despite some challenges there, the room was extremely clean and well kept.

The room was nice enough and clean enough for me, not luxury. The bed was comfortable but if you dont like freeway noise this is not the place for you. On the second night of our stay some construction guys were next to us and they were very loud and kept waking us up until they decided to go to sleep. The breakfast and coffee were convenient but very basic reheated hot food. They did have a waffle maker for fresh waffles and a couple of pieces of fresh fruit. The best thing was that you could walk to two beach accesses. We also walked across the street to dinner one night, which was convenient. The price was fair.

We loved our room for an event right across the street from us. This hotel staff was friendly rooms were clean and its conveniently located. Hope to return if Im ever in the area again!

This Best Western is in a very nice location. Walking distance to the beach. An RV campground is next to the hotel but our room did not face it. The buildings/rooms are old but remodeled. The remodeling was not done well. Finishing blemishes abound inside and out. Amazingly there are tons of paint drips on walkways/hallways. Its terrible that all that money was spent and such a lack of care. The rooms bed platform is weird and oversized for the mattress. The furniture is all knockdown vinyl laminate. The couch is weird and uncomfortable. The water pipes make weird tone sounds for minutes at a time. If you can overlook poor execution on all this, then you can enjoy your stay. Breakfast was good but marred by a worker on break who talked loudly on her speaker phone the 30 minutes we were there.

You can t beat the location! It is very close to the beach!! The breakfast is delicious and the staff is friendly! The only issue I had was that the hotel is a bit run down - the shower curtain rack was hanging off the wall and the front window had a crack in it.

The rooms are clean and spacious, the screen is large, the hair air conditioning works well. The price is adequate, the only thing is that there is no pool.

Weird experience. After comparing this place with their neighbors, Country Inn, I noticed that this Best Western had an extra star and around the same price. After showing up, they told me that the room wasnt ready and that it would be in Country Inn instead. When I came back, they asked me to go with their neighbors, and my 2 queen bedroom also became a single tiny king bed (which they knew because they were talking about it on the phone and they still took me to that room without even letting me know), with little details like the see-through curtains, no space in the bathroom whatsoever + no lock, and no coffee pot when they clearly gave us the things used for coffee (unless it was a BYOCP bring your own coffee pot).

beyond terrible. when we arrived in the room the chlorine smell was really REALLY bad, the bathroom was TINY and there are insects crawling around. the breakfast was also far from good and what they call coffee is just a cup of misery. right now we re sat in the parking lot, waiting for the cleaning ladies to finish up our room AT 5 P.M. However, if you love the noise of the freeway and your room neighbors, then this is the place to be!

Good hotel for passing through beautifully located right next to the beach. Typical Best Western amenities. Everything is clean, though, and the staff is very friendly. A good recommendation for passing through, and for anyone planning to visit Monterey or the nearby golf courses.

I don t think I like this hotel

Rooms were dirty, shower was falling apart, and there were yellow stains all over the sheets. We ended up checking out and staying somewhere else. The front desk staff was sweet and knowledgeable about the area. Beach access across the street.

Price point to quality is spot on. Stayed here with young kids in a 2 queen room. While the location is next to the freeway, its also across from marina state beach. Plus we did not hear the traffic while sleeping. We were able to get a nice evening hike to the beach as well as easy access to beach play after our trip to the bay aquarium. This part of the coast is beautiful and hardly ever crowded. Rooms: Rooms were decent and clean with a microwave and mini fridge. Nearby activities: Marina state beach literally across the street plus very close to Monterey bay aquarium and other sites along highway 1. Walkability: Plenty of very close hiking and beach excursion opportunities.

I have been attending the Pebble Beach Concours d Elegance for the last several years and stay here when I come down. Room rates are great if you purchase a year in advance. Just a few minutes outside of Monterey and 15 minutes to Pebble Beach. I am a professional driver for a company out of Texas and I feel safe parking the high end cars here in the lot. There is a free breakfast from 0600-0900. Free wifi and comfortable beds.

Breakfasts start at 600am. No early arrivals. Photos of site show a hot tub. It is no longer there. Standing water found in room on return. Apparently they either mop or hide down the floors. It would be nice if they dried the floors. No wake up calls. Their system is not properly functioning. If they set a wake up call, it calls you every hour on the hour. Yes, every hour! Refrigerator is slightly cool. Not cold. This is my second stay this month. I called and they said all the concerns I had on my last visit were resolved. They were not. Also got an email from the owner about thanking for my feedback. I wrote him back. No response. Poor customer service! And it seems to start from the top!

Breakfast begins at 600am. Dont even think about trying to get in any earlier! Outlets and USB connector next to the desk are apparently being used by other room equipment. Really? I cant plug in my laptop or charge my phone at the desk? Refrigerator is a joke. It cools, slightly. As one of the hotel team members told me, it doesnt cool like a home refrigerator. They are right. Took 3 days of the hotel ignoring and then acknowledging I ever put in a work order. Then, they tell you thats the way it is. They said as a backup, use the ice machine. When I told the front desk that it wasnt working, she said it was low on ice because of the contractors taking too much ice. And to wait... A few hours! Actually, if there was any communication, they would realize thats it not low, the machine is broken. Stay away. They say they will do things, they never do or resolve. And, they just lie.

Got a couple hours of sleep and back to work. Early start.

Bathroom is way too small!! You will have to climb over the toilet or jump in the bathtub just to close the door ... first hour of laying in the bed I started feeling itchy.. I was put here by my landlord so dont really have too many options

Stay anywhere else! What a disappointment. The door lock was busted, security lock broken off the wall, ceiling over the shower rotten and falling down, door frame to bathroom hacked up, crusted shower head coming off the wall, tub unclean, baseboards had accumulated dirt, sink faucet unclean. We often stay at a BW in our travels. I guess we expected better from a BW property, but many are franchise owners. Avoid this place. This was the worst we ve seen.

There are so many things I love about this hotel. With my son at Cal State MB, we visit the area more than a few times a year and now we only stay here. All the hotel staff are great. I recently had a personal situation come up that I needed assistance with and Carmen at the front desk saved the day going above and beyond with more than exceptional customer service. And as with each stay, every staff member from maintenance to management was pleasant, helpful, friendly and professional. The hotel is conveniently located near a Walmart, 7-11, Dennys, a park with a bmx track and a freeway exit, yet at the same time its quietly nestled away in the beach dunes away from the commotion, and only a short walk to the beach. The rooms have always been very clean and staff is available to help if you need something extra. There is handicapped accessible parking conveniently located which we happened to need during our recent three-night stay and there is plenty of regular parking in close proximity to whatever room you are in. I dont worry about personal safety or vehicle security on the premises. The breakfast has always been great. The breakfast staff keeps everything stocked, replenished, and fresh for the full three hours between 6 and 9. If you arrive for breakfast at 8:45, all your options will still be there! Ive even needed something after hours and the front desk staff was so accommodating and helped me out. Thank you Carmen and all the great staff who always make sure our stay is great!

Usually great and the front person last night was the cutest lil gentleman ever. Told me the best biscuits & gravy ( which I really wanted) Got to the buffet and it was completely wiped out. Not even an apple to eat. I was SO UPSET More biscuits and gravy please!

We were worried about our stay at first being out of town visitors. We ended up enjoying our stay and the room was decent (floor wasn t very clean when we arrived). Some of the staff were very polite - others in the breakfast room not so much. Beware - the hotel next door (literally a few feet away) is a part of one of the Cali homeless programs and there were some sketchy folks over there that we saw frequently. The other hotel had an armed police officer at the entrance

A very nice, modest hotel by the beach in the Monterey Bay. The rooms are comfortable and clean with good wifi, microwave, and fridge. The staff are friendly and efficient. They have free breakfast for the guests. The coast is a short walk across the street. I recommend this place.

The location is fabulous as its real close to the beach. Our room was very nice but the bathroom is on the small side. The highway is just too close to get a good nights sleep. The BW needs to invest in a baffle wall to diminish the noise.

It looks clean but it isnt. Sheets are sticky. The bed holder was dirty. I also had a face bite and once i noticed i saw a small spider crawling on the bed. This spot is not deep cleaned. Wont ever come back here again

This was my first BW stay in quite some time. I must say that the hotel chain has come a long way. I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean. Wi-Fi worked great. Beds were very comfortable. Most importantly, the staff was amazing. Specifically, Ron at the front desk. He went over and above to make sure my stay was not only satisfactory but really enjoyable. Great recommendations, hospitality and professionalism.

I booked in advanced one room for two nights, upon my arrival, I was given a key to a room that was already occupied. Went back to the front office and I was told they had no more rooms. I was then sent to the neighboring hotel, which looked sketchy to me. Went over and I was given a key to a room in the 3rd floor that reeked of cigarette smoke. I couldnt stay there as I have asthma. Went back to the front desk and told the guy there about the room situation and all he said, was, Oh! then go back to the lady from the Best Western. Mind you that on our way to the room and back to the from desk of the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, there were three rooms that had a sign that stated they had COVID! I went back to the Best Western front desk, Carmen, offered me my money back for the inconvenience. But as I told Carmen, that was not the solution as we had traveled from Los Angeles to spend the night. Where was I and my family to stay? Although Carmen and other lady apologize over and over, that wasnt solving my issue. They attempted to call the manage but he didnt answer his phone. After an hour and fifteen minutes of our arrival, Carmen and the other lady were able to find a clean and unoccupied room. I was exhausted of going back and forth and up and down by then. After we settled into the room our stay was pleasant. But since that day, the manager did not call us to apologize or offer any kind of compensation for the huge inconvenience. I was very disappointed with this stay. Every time we come to Monterey, we stayed at the Best Western Marina State Beach, but I think after this experience, it was our last time. I used to recommend them but not anymore.

Decent stay. Rooms recently renovated, but the creaky, structural bones of this place still persist. The bathrooms still are in the original shape. Faucet barely sputtered water.

This is an incredibly subpar Best Western, more on the level of Motel 6. The bathrooms are small and are like bathrooms on planes and motorhomes, and would be very difficult for a big person. There was mildew on the windowsill. The place has a very awkward layout, and it is very inaccessible for the disabled and elderly (stairs) as the rooms accessible to cars are usually booked by local workers who stay by the week or month. The location is fine, because there is nothing to do in Marina. Close to Monterey though. The motel is touted as being accross from Marina State Beach, but you have to walk over huge sand dunes to even get there, or alternatively a long sandy path(once again, not disabled friendly). And then, the cardinal sin: Under the About section on this motels google page, a pool is listed as one of their public amenities. There is no pool. Also right next to a freeway. The beds were comfortable though, and the staff was nice. And free food, which was pretty pathetic, but still free! Still, all I can say merely thinking about this place is what a dump. Very overpriced.

The room was clean and close to the beach but even closer to the highway which disturbed us all night. As a stop over it will do, as a weekend destination - defintely not. The staff was very polite. Breakfast served only until 9 am and I did not like it. I would not stay here again.

We arrived quite late at the hotel. Four adults and three kids were all happy with the space and cleanliness of the two rooms. Most importantly, the front desk lady, Carmen, was super friendly and welcoming, and she offered us free fruits, bread and yogurt as she saw that we would have difficulty finding food so late outside the hotel. We truly appreciate your big smiles and kindness Carmen!

First time that I pay $300+ for a mediocre hotel and it had no parking. I had to go park in street just crazy! They should refund part of my money

The front desk had an attitude was not attentive at all . Our room smelled like Must and mildew the moment we walked in. The bathroom smelled like a gas station bathroom. The curtain rod was basically falling off and the drain cap was broken. Certain fixtures were falling apart or needed fixing. The place was just not up to par on the cleaning . The toilet seat was broken , the rim was dirty , the locks dirty . The whole place needed to be cleaned with bleach because the ordors were not pleasing at all .

Nested between Santa Cruz and Monterey, this dated exterior hotel is definitely an affordable alternative to some of its surrounding competition. Cold coffee and a bunch of flies to greet you in the checkout lobby. The outside is very dated and no elevator, stairs only. Rooms are modernized inside, and very spacious. However, whoever did the renovations had some serious corner cutting. Shower curtain rods a hood curtain pull from being completely pulled out. Toilets were running constantly from not being adjusted correctly ( I had to fix it myself) and the lid to the toilet doesn t even fit the top due to the miscalculation of the install too close to the wall. The bed was decently comfortable and clean and the TV is huge. Room stayed cold, and the pillows were soft. For a one nighter, it was fine - but don t expect much.

I arrived Thursday put medicine in fridge(cause it needed to be fridgerated), fridge did not work, they replaced it Friday, but did not check if the council was plugged into the wall, I put drinks in it, food in it, unbeknownst to me, that nothing was cold, and front desk did nothing to help me.

Love the area!! Definitely would recommend staying here. The property is pretty with flowers all over. They have fire pits as well. (gets kind of cold there) For the future... warn ppl of no elevator. Perfect stay, perfect location, perfect area! Pic opportunities are crazy abundant!

Ill start by saying we stay exclusively with best western when we travel and have always had a good experience. This time was not the case. When I stopped to check in the lady at the desk was short and rude she was more concerned talking to other employees about things that definitely could have waited and kept getting side tracked making a simple check in take way longer than it needed too. We chose this BW over others in the area due to the fact it had a playground and we thought that would be a great break for our young daughter. We found out after walking around the place that the playground had been removed! Then we went to our room and Im not one to throw a fit about a small amount of dust but this room was filthy. Blood mark on the wall, hair in the bath tub, and literally garbage behind the bed. The electrical in the room was dangerously miss wired, the light switches needed to be flipped several times before the lights would flicker on. I dont mean one bad bulb I mean the two lamps on the wall, the lights around the bed, and the lamp next to the chair. When I called to talk to the manager she scolded me for not letting them know right away. The customer service here was so aweful. Like I said Ive stayed with BW many, many times. This isnt a Karen speaking. Im extremely disappointed.

Hello, I had multiple issues already during my stay that I need to bring to the attention of management. The front desk clerk issued me a room key and as I was getting ready to leave in ny car stopped me to reissue the correct number. She said she didnt know her coworker already issued that room. This was yesterday. The more concerning issue was today a man tried entering my hotel room. He was under the impression the room was not occupied. I was lucky to have used the safety lock otherwise he would have made entry. When I went to the office to find out what the source of the issue was the same clerk who attended me yesterday apologized and said it will not happen again. I was utilizing the bath tub at the time and was scared. She stated that her coworker who cleans the rooms advised her the room was vacant. The do not disturb door hanger was in place the entire time. I was gone from 9am to 2 pm today. Hopefully you can support your staff so they can prevent issues like this in the future.

Rooms are newly renovated, more spacious. They got rid of the dirty old carpet and put in vinyl floor. They got rid of the pool and have a small garden.

For a solo traveller, who needs to spend a night close to the ocean it was a perfect solution providing all what I needed. Considering rather high prices of accommodation in California this hotel was relatively not so expensive, but comfortable and clean. In addition the breakfast included in the price + free coffee and tea has been provided. There is well rated restaurant near by and in a walking distance there are other fast foods plus Walmart.

Real easy to get to. Very clean rooms and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast was good and the area was kept clean.

What do you expect from a two star hotel? That s what you get here. It s on the run down (chipped paint, loose windows) and dirty side (a hair and a little debris in the room, mysterious white stains on the bed frame). It s loud from the freeway and from the very thin walls. Breakfast was perfectly fine. WiFi works. Lots of parking. Walking distance from the beach.

Right off the highway. Very hospitable. Excellent service. Clean comfy updated rooms. Easy to check in. Right across the highway from the most spectacular beach with an amazing sunset!

Its alright

My wife and I are visiting the area and needed a place to sleep for the night and this place really saved our night. We were dead tired and didn t know what to expect but the immeasurably beautiful Carmen took care of us and we couldn t have been happier with the facilities. I stay at hotels a lot due to traveling for work and this hotel definitely ranks up there and is honestly impressive. For example, I stayed at a hotel in Las Vegas recently called the STRAT and it doesn t even begin to compare to this Best Western and the people here. The prices are absurdly reasonable for the quality of accommodations and hospitality that we received. Thanks again Carmen =] Also, everything was so cleaaaaaan!!!! *Note* I m not being paid for this review.

Ron and Shelly were very accommodating when I needed some help at the hotel. Very friendly staff, great location north of monterey, and the rooms were modern with big tvs and fast internet. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking to stay in the area

Very bad experienced ! Our room is a none smoking room, but terrible smells cigarette all the towels and pillows smells cigarette. My husband called front desk and ask if we can move to other room because I have asthma , the lady is not nice! . The following day I called the housekeeper and let her know about the cigarette smell, she apologized us and replaced all the pillows and towels .breakfast is too crowded and no food in the hot meal the lady is just watching , and standing inside the room she don t even check for refills.extremely disappointed,

I have never had such bad customer service especially at a Best Western. They are typically my favorite hotels. I went into this hotel to book a room for the night. I asked for a King on the bottom floor because me and my husband had our 9 month old with us and didnt want to walk the stairs. There was a lady in the back that I couldnt see who started making fun of me for wanting a room on the first floor. Then the front desk asked for my card without telling me the room options so I asked for the options. He looked shocked and proceeded to give me more expensive prices than were on their website. I asked about a AAA discount and he asked well do you have a card ? Obviously I said yes and then he proceeded to tell me they dont give AAA discounts on the weekend (p.s. it wasnt the weekend)..... Why did you asked for my card then? I asked him why and the lady who was originally making fun of me snapped back saying its the owners policy... I ended up walking out and not staying there. We went to the holiday Inn across the road and had a wonderful stay. The people at that hotel were amazing, there was a free breakfast, and they even gave us a room upgrade for our anniversary. Long story short DONT STAY HERE unless you want to be treated poorly.

Nice place. A little old. I had hair in my towel and wash cloth was a little dirty. Located on the sand dunes. Sand and dirt to be expected. Room are big, modern and up to date. Wireless charging pad on the lamps. Nice touch.

If I could put 0, I would. Worst experience in my last 20 years. The room all together wasn t clean. Our towel actually had a dead insect. The shower and curtain was dirty, along with bed sheets. Room ventilation isn t working since I feel like in suffocating. In such a difficult time, cleanliness is necessary.

This was a very clean not fancy place, loved the location near the beach, personnel are nice ,professional.

not as advertised, no pool, and minutes after areival when we discovered no pool, corporate office for best western said they could not change the reservation to a different best western location. The place is grimey and gross. 1 star rating on a 2 star motel - best western is the worst!

Best thing about it, the beach

i hate this place, worst hotel i ve ever been to. When i walked in it stank and the floors were dirty. the bathroom was the most disgusting thing i ve ever seen, its peeling and smelt really gross. when i turned on the water there were black things floating. we didn t even get a bar of soap.i m never coming here ever again. not even worth the price. I am so disappointed.

Upon checking in I noticed they recycled keycards, the hostess was nice. Room was decent and large. Big screen TV, fridge and microwave were great. There is however rust on the shower curtain rod and on the closet rod. The bathroom door is huge, heavy and wouldnt close properly. The room does appear to have been recently updated with new floors, paint and modern decor and lighting. The negative part is how much noise is heard through the walls and the windows. Water pipes are extremely loud, furniture can be heard moving around all night. It took us a long time to fall asleep due to all the noise. Would not recommend for the $250+ I payed to stay here. Would not return.

I am back for another week . Friendly front desk , breakfast is good a little busy with us workers at 6 a.m. they seam to keep it pretty clean . Love waking up to the clean fresh smell of the ocean I get to slip out and listen to the waves for 15 minutes before I run off to work . Blessed to be here .

Great extended stay motel. Professional, courteous and helpful staff. Close to stores for groceries. The rooms are spacious and include in-room wi-fi, microwave and fridge.

This is an excellent value for staying anywhere near Marina, CA. It s walking distance to a dog friendly beach, short drive to anything else you need and freeway is right there to hop in for trips to other cities. Rooms were clean and updated.
