Staff was not helpful and one was straight up rude. Patricia didn’t seem to want to answer our questions and gave us a lot of attitude. We have never had this kind of service at an Rei. Usually the staff is great but maybe it’s just this location…. Or maybe I have to shop somewhere else.
Stopped at the REI in Marina for a specific portable power station that showed in stock online, but it was difficult to find in the store. After asking an employee, he was able to direct me to the right section and was knowledgeable about the compatibility of the solar charger I was considering. However, the model I came for wasn’t actually available, despite the website saying otherwise, so I had to purchase the next one up—which was more than I had planned to spend. Checkout was relatively quick, but the hard push for an REI membership soured the experience. Even after explaining that I don’t live near an REI and wouldn’t get much benefit from it, the clerk kept pressing. Saying no multiple times should have been enough. Overall, the store was well-stocked, and the staff was helpful, but the inaccurate inventory and over-the-top membership pitch took away from the experience.
Summary: Kevin M. provided experience, gear familiarity, and time to get me a better deal on better equipment. Went in planning to look at and possibly purchase gear I had seen online. They had it in stock, as the website claimed, but then I encountered Kevin M. He showed me what I had been looking for, but took the time to talk through what my purpose was for it. He then took me to some alternatives, justifying why they'd be a better fit, and then took the time to make sure the gear was complete and in good condition before I left. If this is the standard for this location, I would send anyone of any experience level to them
REI continues to be top notch when it comes to customer service. I got a flat on my bike while I was on the road and I needed it fixed right away. I know bike shops are always backlogged with service requests, so I feared it would take days and I would be stranded and have to take an Uber home. Nope. Amazing and wonderful Ben dropped what he was doing and fixed my flat with a smile. I was in and out in minutes. His courtesy, knowledge and willingness to help was clearly apparent. He saved the day. He made a very bad situation into a pleasant experience for me. I’m grateful REI supports that kind of costumer service, and quite honestly, it’s what I’ve come to expect from REI. Keep up the good work.
Shop here quite frequently(99% online pickup) . Will no longer come as we decided to bring our dog this time and browse in store, only to be told we cannot bring our him in (13lb small and friendly). What kind of outdoor store doesn't allow dogs? Even Target next door could care less and that has groceries lol it's insane. Will take all my outdoor shopping to Big 5 in Monterey and Bass Pro in Manteca. They allow dogs.
Came by since the Tesla chargers were in their parking lot and had time to spare. I was able to find myself an item that was $100 and went to the register to pay for it. The guy at the register name Kevin helped us and asked us about the REI membership. He did his spill and we didn't want to interrupt him while he was still doing so, we waited for him to be done. We told him we weren't interested. Not the friendliest person, clearly us saying no or the color of our skin made him feel that it was okay to give us the stink eye and gave us our receipt and pushed my item to me rather than hand it over to me. Was it rude? Yes. I thought it was just me but I walked out with my husband and asked him how that conversation went and clearly he felt the same. Did I walk back in? Yes. Did I return it? Yes. Can I spend my hard earned money elsewhere? Most definitely.
The experience was far too corporate. The staff is pleasant, but they're trained to upsell on everything. I'm berated to donate, apply for the REI credit card, etc. I just want some socks. Nothing more, nothing less. This was my first time back to an REI in a few years, and it was unfortunately unpleasant. The 2 pairs of socks I purchased were also mispriced ($10.95 on the sticker vs $11.95 at the register, but I didn't want to get back in line over $2)
I worked with Megan, Rachel, and Jacob in the cycling department at the Marina, Ca location. I am not an experienced cyclist and was unsure what I was looking for. I initially worked with Rachel who provided extremely informative input on what kind of bike would be best for the places that I want to bike. She advised me against one that I had originally been looking at because it was discontinued and the last one was the wrong size for me. She then directed me to the Co-Op CTY and DRT bikes that were both within my budget and appeared to have everything I needed. She also pointed out that there was one on clearance(previously owned) that was 15% off. I came back a day later as it was raining fairly hard and I couldn't/didn't want to test ride it. I was then assisted by Megan who allowed me to test the fit of the bike in store and assisted me with test riding it in a nearby portion of the parking lot. It was a great experience but I wanted to take a couple of days to discuss it with my wife. I came back the next day and was assisted by Rachel and Jacob. Jacob set me up with the clearance bike(Co-Op CTY 2.2) as well as a kickstand and water bottle holder. He then installed them and assisted us in finding road tires for my wifes bike(An older Trek). We walked out of the store with the Bike(with Kickstand and Waterbottle holder), a new bike seat, road tires and accompanying tubes, and the tools necessary to change the tires myself. Jacob did some final checks on the bike and installed the water-bottle holder and kickstand for me. I cannot say how great of an experience this was and how grateful I am that REI has all of these great resources in store. I strongly recommend going to this location and discussing options with the staff. I was never pressured to buy anything and felt like I walked out with everything that I needed to have a great riding experience. Thank you Rachel, Megan, and Jacob.

So a couple of buddies and myself were just starting our ride when a friend noticed there was a issue.(hasn t been for a ride in awhile) From first contact in the bike shop, Fredy was most helpful to help us complete our purchase with a great smile! We decided to to the labor ourselves since it was a simple task (chain). After removing the old chain and installing the new one there was another issue with the length! Then we didn t have the core tool to complete our task , so embarrassed, I walked back inside head hung low and talked with the mechanic Andrew who assured me it s was no problem to help out a little! But I must say to my friends it was more than just a little! I told my friends how being a member isn t the reason the employees are nice it s the hospitality and friendliness that makes my REI outstanding! Thanks again to Fredy and Andrew! Love this store - both products and staff. I dont usually write reviews, but with service declining in the retail industry (my experience), I wanted to acknowledge Sabrinas service. She was a standout. Very friendly and such a pleasure at checkout.
Store is small - often a struggle to find items. Personalities of employees vary greatly. Some have been condescending/rude. Store manager is always nice. Discount section is usually overpriced; items stay here for many weeks/months.
This place is amazing I bought a vehicle roof cargo box and attachment equipment. Kelly, Jake & Bryan went up & above in all aspects of customer service. Very dutifull in all areas of being good people. While waiting for the cargo box to be affixed to my vehicle, I walked around inside REI ...every staff were friendly, courteous, and professional. ** I hope they bring back GoPro products. I highly recommend this place to be the first stop,, walk ins or online.
I dont camp or hike anymore, Im too infirm. But I love the selection of solar lights, chargers and small generators, and camping foodstuffs, which I buy and stash against the blackouts I hear are coming this summer. A nice propane stove to heat water and Im all set!
I recently moved to the area and was thrilled to have an REI in my backyard. Last week, I had some bike maintenance issues and was worried my excitement with the local shop might be short-lived. That was however, until I interacted with Jake (dont know last name) at the bike service desk. He was able to address my concerns and work through the previous communication issue. Not only did he make it right, he reinvigorated my belief in the REI business model. Thanks Jake... in this instance, you singlehandedly maintained customer loyalty.
REI has always been a great company with excellent customer service and quality products. Today I had to return a few items due to sizing and the staff member was very helpful. He needed help with the last item and asked the manager, Jared, to step in. The three of us engaged in a meaningful conversation about the world right now, and their presence and attentiveness was greatly appreciated. REI is progressive in their actions and the team members shared that given the latest news, the company would support any employee in need of help regarding the loss of rights. What struck me most was being able to connect with two strangers about the vulnerability we all feel right now and to offer tenderness to one another. This exchange, prompted me to help an elderly couple in the parking lot. They had a number of items to load so I offered to put them in their truck. We had a great conversation and I learned that their names were Judy & Glenn and they had been married for 49 years. They were kind-hearted and offering my presence left me feeling more hopeful. Our nervous systems have been overworked these past years but today I was reminded of all the goodness that there still is and when we open ourselves to each other, we connect more deeply to the meaning of it all, and perhaps find some hope along the way. Not what I was expecting when doing a simple shoe exchange, but maybe that s where we are meant to find love and grace for each other. Thank you

Really friendly, helpful folks here! I appreciate the bike shop getting me squared away. I wanted a bike rack and basket attached to my bike XS CTY 1.1 bike, and they were able to find a workaround to make it work for me!
Their level of customer service and amount of time to wait has been consistently getting worse. Any time I come here with someone that isnt white I notice that we get scrutinized and monitored all over the store. Two of the women that are managers are extremely rude, elitist, and disrespectful to anyone that doesnt fit their definition of outdoorsmen (young, white, wealthy, and physically fit).

Fantastic staff and super knowledgeable. My partner and I stopped by the store on two different occasions for backpacking gear. Twice we have been given the most amazing attention and education from staff and the store manager always stops by for a visit. I wish I could remember everyones name! But Tony went above and beyond customer service. He shared his own backpacking experience and what to expect from gear. He helped us try on several different packs and advised us what to look for. He sold us on a backpack that same day.
While most REIs are great, this place is not.

Great stuff for a reasonable price!
Specific to bikes- I bought a CO-OP brand new from this REI. Set up and pickup was great, however less than a month later the tire is rubbing due to a bent rotor. I ve done nothing other than regular riding, and not too much of that yet either as we ve had a lot of rain. When called, they barely listened and then said I could have it fixed for $25. I ve owned the bike less than a month and it says they cover free brake adjustments among other things for the first year, which is what the guy on the phone referred to the bent rotor as. So if you re thinking of buying here and considering the Free Adjustment service a benefit of buying new as I did, just know they won t actually honor it. I joined the co-op to buy, so I m a paying member as well. Buy a bike elsewhere, or at least don t expect any customer service if your brand new bike immediately has issues. I don t think I ll be buying anything from here again if I can help it.
It was okay. Im from Alabama though. Out REI is 2 story and has a lot more stuff. I have yet to find a 2 story REI in cali!
Front end staff is in need of good training on how to deal with customers. I have visited many locations around the country and this one takes the prize for the most unprofessional approach when it comes to returns and exchanges.
My go to place for anything outdoors. Staff is always friendly and eager to help with any questions I may have. Being an REI member gets you discounts on merchandise which is a big plus! Also my go to place for bike repair. They are fast and get the job done right

Great store but it is small. Has a fair bit of what you want but stock is starting to get lower. Good sales on special weekends. Returned item sales are reasonable and some of the return excuses make a good read sometimes.
Ill say it a million times. CARRY PLUS SIZE. And not hidden and not one plus size shirt and thats it. Also, UPDATE YOUR SIZING. REI brand is the worst, but all outdoor brands need to check there sizing when a 3X fits like a L. Staff was very nice, but man everything is expensive, which we all already know

For clothing purposes, this REI is brutal. They have very limited selection of sizes - if youre a bigger person you might not waste your time here but otherwise your getting your hopes up and wasting time.

REI is expensive. Our son loves their product and the quality is notable. $120 for a thin. long sleeve wool-blend shirt seems a bit much. Their staff, however, are excellent, well trained & very helpful. The greeter was genuinely cheerful.

This store took many Covid precautions, such as a limited amount of customers allowed in the shoe try on area; this and their employees attentiveness to social distancing made me feel very safe. Marc in particular was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and helped me so much! I was looking for my first pair of hiking boots and I was able to tell Marc that I had no idea what I needed and they were able to help me find the perfect pair. Marc not only took the time to listen to my needs and recommend boots based on them, but they also explained what features would benefit me and why. Marc made me feel confident in my purchase and my newfound knowledge of hiking boots!
Theyve remodeled the store for more social distancing space and it makes it more appealing to shop! Well done REI!

I was offered help while looking for a pair of shoes for walking the beach. After being shown a $150 pair, I explained I was looking for something half that price or less. The employee then pulled down a pair for $210 and walked me over to another again priced at $150. Employees should be trained to listen better than this. She was more concerned with my dog than helping me find the right shoes.

We had an AWESOME experience with a very kind sales associate (tall, blonde...wish we had gotten her name!) who helped us locate a loose part for our GoPro camera. She took the trouble to go into the back and find all of their spare parts, then helped us look through it all to find what we needed. On top of it all, she ended up being able to give us the exact part we needed, FREE OF CHARGE. A true A+ experience we re really grateful.
A bit smaller than other REIs but they got most of what you might want. Plus ordering online and returning here is an option. All friendly staff too.

The folks who work at rei are very informed as to purposes, utility & limitations of equipment they carry. I appreciate having their trustworthy advice for critical adventure gear. Every rei store only has a portion of their online catalog, but can have any item special ordered for me. The Marina store has a good selection of climbing gear, tents, jackets, and a full service bicycle shop.
Amazing place prices are what can be overwhelming here expect each item to be twice as expensive elsewhere but the textiles/fiber are the best clearly long lasting apparel.

The co-op of REI as well as the organization, the brands they carry are reflected by the employees. The store is very well organized, spacious and clean.
Great for outdoor enthusiasts but not for your everyday person. REI carries top end gear, has knowledgeable staff, and offers classes and outdoor adventure excursions. If you want a cheap bike, go somewhere else, these are good quality pieces of equipment. If you shop here often become a member, you will get a dividend back at the end of the year from what you spend.

Well I am a big outdoor person so normally any store like this would be my thing. Although super Pricey, they sell better quality items. Got my hiking shoes (really cute style) recently and some energy bar. This place have everything you could ask for. If you are big in energy bars try the Taos mountain OMG they are the best!!!!

REI has a very wide selection of just about anything out doors related. The only down side is pricing. That said, all of the products here are high end. You wont find any junk in this store.

The staff here are always so helpful, even though Im usually just looking :) The prices arent always awesome but the quality of the product is very high. Staff are knowledgeable about products which is super nice. Want to try out that sleeping bag? Theyve got a place for you to so that... and it doesnt involve getting down on the floor.
REI isnt exactly the cheapest store around, but then again, most outdoorsy sports or activities arent exactly the cheapest things to get into. While sometimes their prices arent the best, they have an excellent customer satisfaction policy that generally will make up for it. Plus, youre not likely to find some of this stuff anywhere else for any cheaper, lots of the prices are manufacturer set.
I went to the store to look for new hiking gear, boots, pants, shirts, everything. I noticed some exercise bras in my size (not an easy thing to find.) I tried them on and they fit beautifully. I looked for other colors to purchase but could only find black. The salesman rang the product and then informed me they were not on sale. I explained that I had found them on the clearance rack, along with other sizes and colors. He went back to check, returned and informed me they were misplaced. I asked him if he was going to honor the discount; he replied no. I left without purchasing anything. Very disappointing customer service policy.
I purchased a pair of Keen Voyager womans hiking boots for $125.00 3 months ago. I knew the sales lady didnt know size I needed when she had me purchase a 7.5 after going through her tests (walking and jumping on the little bridge display), but I went with what she said anyhow. The boots were the size I ware in most all other shoes, but they we tight around my upper back ankle and toes. She said I didnt want much room in the boot because it could cause my toes to hurt. Thats nonsense I said! With hiking socks on, I need to go up a 1/2 to a full size, but she said not to. The boots hurt me from day 1! I wore them for 3 months and broke them in... but then one day, the back of the left boot began to cut into my ankle 4 miles into a hike. I was miserable! I had another 4 miles to get back to my car and nothing I could do but keep going. By the time I got to my car, my ankle was terribly blistered and bleeding. It was a mess and very painful! My husband took the boots in the next morning and asked for a replacement. The cashier asked him for the receipt, but I paid cash that day and lost my receipt. He was told there was nothing they could do about it. He explained the whole story about the day we bought them and was still told he had to have a receipt. My husband asked if they could at least help with meeting us halfway on another boot, explained what I endured on the hiking trip; but the cashier would not budge. Long story short... Im left without a hiking boot after being convinced to purchase a boot I knew was the wrong size because I listened to what I thought was the professional in the store that day. I dont think I will ever shop at REI again, or at least not the store in Marina, CA. Trust in your own opinion when you shop there... the sales people dont have a clue when it comes to the proper sizing of a hiking boot.
