Came here with a difficult project with my '55 T-Bird. Was happy to find knowlegable people who had worked on Y-Block Fords in the past. Issue was resolved perfectly. Very pleased.
Referred to by America's Tire store on Cherry Ave for alignment. This is an overdue review. Owners have been made aware it would be written. It appears different people have dramatically different experiences at this shop. Allow me to share mine, starting with the positive: -Clean shop -Catchy logo and signage I have been giving Herb's my business for a handful of alignment jobs. Historically, they had been prompt and reasonably priced. I have spoken with Jake (the founder's son) and his mother with the picture-perfect hair. They had earned enough of my trust that I was willing to give them a bigger job. In preparation for an upcoming drive, I asked Rodney (primary sales guy) to change lubricants for engine, transmission, differential, and brakes. I get a call from the shop later that day asking if I wanted to change the battery. The engine had been starting without issue, but in an act of good faith, I permitted the battery swap. After all, in order to get to know business associates, one has to allow them enough freedom to reveal character. This should've triggered my Spidey-senses. When I picked up my car later that afternoon, the bill was in excess of $500, which felt excessive for fluid swap. Didn't have my reading glasses, but paid nonetheless. It wasn't until I got home that I was able to assess receipt, one line item at a time. It is important for the owners to know the type of reputation their team is creating in the community. Either win advocates, or earn critics. The next couple of days, I drove around town but couldn't get into first gear. Apparently they overlooked replacing a fluid they had charged me for. That meant having to go back to Herb's shop to give them more of my time to fix something that should've been taken care of the first time around. More time away from work, from family. It felt like they didn't respect my time or patronage. Thus, this well-earned review. I had given Rodney an opportunity to make things right, and his response was a "free" alignment job, which I won't redeem because my confidence in their operational ability and trustworthiness is spotty at best. The only reason I have given this business two stars is because I feel they have the capacity to do good work-- when they want to. Aside from that, I would steer clear of a business which has temperamental quality of work and will charge you for items your car doesn't need. The role of a subject matter expert is to build confidence in clientele (a.k.a., the funding source). In this regard, it is obvious this value isn't a primary objective incorporated into the culture of this organization. It's unfortunate their business model is to win short gains instead of developing life-long partnerships. I have a feeling this business was founded upon different principles than what it is currently operating under. Long Beach, Strong Beach.
These guys know their stuff... took my 75 C3 Vette to 3 places in santa ana and they didnt want to touch it. Few days at herbs valve job done and to a T and service was great. They are my new shop now point blank.
I've had three vehicles worked on here. Everything from an engine rebuild, AC repair, heater repair and paint/body work. Never disappointed. Work is done when they say it will be done and always done right the first time. I've never had sticker shock or been nickel & dimed like some other shops I've used in the past. Highly recommend this place.
The guy at the front desk was so Rude and unprofessional while his guys were checking out my car. Trying to diagnose what was wrong with my brakes he comes out and says to take my car elsewhere because it's not high end. My car doesn't have brakes it had to be towed to this location and tows aren't free and i had to pay another 500 to get it back home .
Can't say anything bad. It's the cleanest shop, work bench, floor, tools, office,(coffee in the am) even the outside ciean.. Body and Paint are proud of the work they do. Do it right the first time. As for services the greatest. Only one time in TWENTY YEARS plus did I return for minor adjustment. Jake and mom Eva will make you feel at home. Give them a try,
I'm new to the Long Beach area and needed to find a reliable place to service my 2015 Honda Civic. Herb's is great! Not only did they perform a routine service quickly, with a smile, & at a reasonable price, they had someone give me a ride to/from the place I was going during the service period. They also took the time to look at the vehicle as a whole, beyond the immediate areas needing service, just to be sure everything looked good. The icing on the cake... they fixed a small problem with the front bumper at no extra charge. I am so impressed and want to spread the word. Thanks to Mark, Luis and the others behind the scenes, for the great service... I will definitely be back!
I've been taking my cars to this place for YEARS. Personal service and reasonable prices. They work with you if you're on a tight budget with ranking must be done, needs to be done soon, would be good to take care of. And they are realistic about how long repairs will take. They don't promise tomorrow if they know it's going to take a couple of days, which I really like! And they check the WHOLE car for problems if you want them to. And they keep you in the loop on what is needed, cost, and time it will take.
