John's Bascom Automotive is fully family owned and operated, since 1972 These days John and Mike share responsibility in the day-to-day operations of the business. Both John and Mike currently hold Smog Licenses and multiple ASE certifications. They both split their time between running the business and working on vehicles. John started working in the oil industry after graduating high school and spending some time working in Yosemite. He was then drafted for the Vietnam War and spent two years overseas. Mike Rockafellow worked for his father in the service station during the 80s before enlisting in the Navy. Upon returning home from multiple Pacific tours, Mike returned to the service station to work full time.

Just called and spoke to Mike (John's son) wanted to charge me $180 just to look at the car. Not an honest or nice guy in my opinion.
I worked with Mike to get my truck taken care of and he was very helpful and friendly. He was timely with his response and I thought the prices were very fair.
Customer service here is non existent The person on the phone is an absolute tool he makes fun of you for not knowing basic things about your car so if you don't know the engine size he's going to make fun of you for not knowing that if he's going to ask you things about your car what's going on with it and then when you try to explain it to him he's basic going to make fun of you for that too I mean there's a million other shops you can go to in the Bay Area You don't have to come over here and get belittled trying to get your car fixed and it's also a way to expensive so just go somewhere else. Also the owner is now trying to say I am writing about the wrong company instead of taking responsibility.
I have bee taking my 2 cars for over 4 years now. Mike is very prompt and gives an affordable work estimate. Recommended!
Excellent service all around. I showed up with no appointment and they kindly made time for my car. They were fast and thorough, and very friendly and straightforward. Seems like an honest shop, which is very hard to come by these days.
They've worked on several of our cars and each time we received excellent service. They gave us an estimate then called with a quote once they'd had a chance to take a look at the problem. The repairs were completed as promised in the time frame promised.
Worst auto shop iv ever been to by far. Not only did they charge me way to much for the diagnostic, they charged more than a fare price for a new starter. Which is what they diagnosed the problem to be. Aftet I payed them i was reassured multiple times my car would be fine. The very next day it wouldn't start while i was in the middle of my delivery job. I waited 2 days till i took it back. They wanted to charge me again plus i left it at the shop for 4 whole days. When i went to pick it up this time they said it had no problems at all. Once again as soon as i left it broke down on me.... I suggest to anyone thinking of going here to change your mind before you get ripped off and your car never gets fixed. Or it may who knows. Either way HUGE RIP OFF!!!!!

I needed my tires replaced quickly before a long roundtrip. They did it for me pretty quickly, though I feel like I couldve gotten the tires cheaper elsewhere. I was just in too much of a hurry to argue.

These guys are great. One of the few in the valley who recycle your radiator and coolant for you. Really nice guys and nice shop. Would recommend to others.
This place is extremely dishonest. They charged $120 over for the part, and billed double for service. It cost over $700 for them to do what pep boys did for under $300, when I called Kent or ken on why he quoted so much over, he admitted to it and refused to correct his error. Even on charging me twice to retrieve MIL CODES.
When my car suddenly stopped and wouldnt restart on a Sunday afternoon in the mountains, getting a tow truck was the most difficult task of my recent experience. The most pleasant part was that Johns Bascom Auto called me first thing Monday morning, diagnosed and repaired my car in record time and I was back in business that Monday afternoon. Thanks to them for being accurate, speedy, and affordable.

My extended family has been coming to John Rockafellow (and now his son) for almost 35 yrs. There is a line of cars lined up down the street bc they earn your repeat business primarily by being cautious with the bill. They often fix my problems with a simple part when I know they could have claimed it to be a difficult fix. Actually, my best memories w/ them are when they say, Yes you do need to replace [that part], but not just yet. Come back in 10,000 miles. In fact, some of us travel from quite a ways north if we really need to be sure we are not gonna be lied to about a major fix. I believe their labor rates are way low, as well. Thank you, John!
