Started coming here after getting some new tires awhile back. Now doing my car service here as well. Customer service is great, but you should make an appointment to get what ever you need done.
Pep Boys in San Carlos is quick & efficient. I needed my battery replaced after work, it was dark & pouring down rain. I went to Pep Boys they had me omw 10 minutes after the new battery was delivered to their shop.

Got new tires and battery (scheduled appointment first thing in the morning). Finished about when they said it would be. There were some issues initially because of what the website lets you do but personnel worked quickly to resolve.
It did take a long time for the quote to be given to me for a brake job but that’s because they were short staffed which they let me know of. Overall they did a good job with the work and it was a reasonable price for what they did.
I was able to schedule my oil change and get it done when I wanted. They were quick and got it done in about 30 minutes. They also checked my TPMS indicator and let me know what was wrong down no charge. Will come back here for my other cars.
We had an appointment at 9am. They took our keys and had the car completed in an hour - 4 new tires. Excellent installation, no damage to the wheels. No surprises with the cost. You can't ask for anything more. Great service.
Overall, a great experience! The person at the desk was very friendly, and the cost to patch my tire was only $22. Very happy with the service and value!
The guy at the register was completely courteous, and they took care of my oil, change fast and I even found a discount coupon overall five out of five. I highly recommend going there. They will take care of you.

The WORST POSSIBLE! I replaced 4 tires there and complimentary check up showed everything ok just battery is on low side. after that car was vibrating on highway while braking at >50mph. I called & took there for check up on the 3rd day & they said brake rotor worn out & need replacement. I was not sure about their diagnostics as two days ago they checked brake system & everything checked out. Then on the next day my check engine light & vehicle stability warning light came up, car stopped on light. I was scared. Took it to close autozone for code- MAF code. I just opened the hood to see why- as my car just had 10k milage maintenance done at dealership few months ago. Guess what- air filter hose to MAF was disconnected & radiator cap was open & the cap was just sitting on the engine bay! These morons either deliberately left it or forgot to connect the hose & put the radiator cap on. I can t believe that is done by a professional auto shop! Stay away from them & save your car & probably your life!

The website says they close at 6pm, but when we got there at 5pm. They closed the door at our face and after waiting for 10 mins, they told us it is closed and refused to provide service
Stas did an excellent job in changing my oil.
Writing this for my partner. They replaced his spark plugs in his 2012 Volkswagen Jetta and stated they were new. The issue kept coming up and out of frustration, he took it to the dealership. They had a hard time figuring out what was going on since he told them the spark plugs were new (replaced 6months beforehand). It took them all day and they decided just to check the spark plugs. Turns out they were old and worn out. Spark plugs should last much longer, he has a 4min commute to work. He then had to pay again for new spark plugs and all that labor again. It ended up costing him a lot more money than needed because of the diagnostic and another set of spark plugs. Car was also at risk of becoming damaged because it ran on old spark plugs for longer than expected because of this deception. Terrible, don t go here.
The first guy, a black guy, gave me a price of $99.00, a day later a white guy gave me a price of $130.00 & said that there would be an extra $30.00 to use a machine that when finished would go DING DING !!!

Edgar the mechanic reving my engine and roasting my tires twice. When I asked him about it, he gave me attitude saying the emergency brake was on which was a lie. I never put my emergency brake on. He didnt know I was right there watching it all. My tires were only a week old and very expensive.
I went on a Sunday. The guy I spoke on the phone was very pleasant and helpful. They did a good job with my change oil and wipers replacement. Im a happy customer. Kudos to Sunday, 4/28 staff. Keep up the good work
Very bad service and lies. Today I stopped for change oil then I waited 2 hours and this man worked there said we not have oil filter and ordered and waited for 20 minutes and now I waited 1 hour for filter still no delivery. This is first time and I m sure this last time to come here
Service is the worst I ve ever seen. Do not come here unless you want your car to be ruined, they stripped my oil pan and my brakes didn t work after getting them replaced had to use emergency brake 10/10 do not recommend go somewhere else if you value your life and your car!!

Been here for more than 2.5 hours. Approved an oil change, new battery and air filter. Said they were almost done an hour ago, when I asked again it was never assigned to a mechanic and they never started on the air or battery. Coming up on being here 3 hours now and I just need to leave with only the oil being done. not only did I waste my day off now I get to drive home in rush hour

I have seen a bunch of mixed reviews so I thought I would chime in with my very good experience. The night before my scheduled appointment one of the service reps called me to explain that i couldnt wait for my vehicle (in other words that I would have to drop it off for the day). This was due to being understaffed. Obviously, I was a bit disappointed but the tire promotion that the store had was too good to pass up. So I ended up arriving an hour before my appointment in hopes of shortening the total time for the replacement of all 4 tires on our Tesla 3. I checked in with Daisy, who was knowledgeable and friendly - so I agree with the other positive reviewers that reference her by name. The car ending up being completed in around 3 hours which was MUCH faster than expected. So I am a very happy customer! One other important thing worth noting is that the location does a lot of tire replacements for Teslas, and as a result has a good selection on non-OEM tires at an excellent price. We are about to return our leased Tesla and all 4 of our tires are deemed to be excessively worn. By going to Pep Boys, we will save close to $700, as Tesla charges $335 per tire.

The worst tire shop Ive ever dealt with. I regret coming here so much. I usually dont bother with reviews, especially negative ones, but this place is exceptionally bad and exceedingly disorganized. Im amazed theyre still in business. First, they couldnt honor their own advertised deal. They couldnt get 4 tires on at once. They canceled my order twice accidentally. They canceled an appointment for unknown reasons. They lost a tire, seriously, no joke. They couldnt do an alignment. Again, Im not joking. After getting 3 tires from them and paying over $600, I had to go to another shop to get an alignment. Im still waiting for my 4th tire that they owe me that I already paid for. I wish wish wish I had gone anywhere else at this point.

Excellent customer service and great deals
These pep boys, no pep MEN, helped me on the Fourth of July when literally no other mechanic s shop was open. Fixed the screw in my tire for cheap and got me back on the road in under an hour. Had no opinion on pep boys before, but now I can say I at least highly recommend their tire repair services. There is no way I could have done the work myself for less time or money.
Its a shame that Pep Boys has lost there way. Very unorganized, very slow and lack of communication. 1.5 hours to change oil especially when you are the first customer is sad.
Pep Boys in San Carlos is under staffed and can not do task like wheel alignments.

Got an oil change service. It was fast and the service was great. Quick and simple.
Went in to get my brake pads inspected, everything went well, they even let me go free of charge since there wasnt any maintenance required. I get in my car and they are grease marks all over the inside of the car. Even found an entire shoe print on the seat. Didnt want to make a fuss about it since the inspection was FREE, but when I go to wipe up the grime on my seats I notice the guy left a fresh tear in the leather. How this guy managed to rip my seats and dirty up the interior in the short time he spent in my car I will never know. Went back to speak to them about it and was met with an angry manager who threatened to get in my face if I didnt drop it. If you care even the slightest about your car I would stay clear of this place.

George was great and provided good advice regarding the nail in my tire. My only feedback would be that I had booked an appointment but the car wouldnt be ready until 3-4 hours later. Fortunately it was ready in 2.5 hours, but this was longer than I originally anticipated when booking the appointment.

I change oil at PepBoys because there a bit more honest than other places. Twenty minutes of work should not take two hours especially at end of day when not many customers. The cost was $39 - coupon 25% which was $32. Not $19-28 it says online. I will return though.
Went in with a slow leak in my tire. I needed two new tires, which they had in stock. Within the hour I had my tires rotated and new ones put on. They have lifetime guaranty on tire repair and free rotation.
I had a truly frustrating experience with Pep Boys during my recent oil service. Despite the fact that the actual work took a maximum of 20 minutes, I ended up waiting an excruciating 2 hours and 45 minutes! What is the point in making an appointment if the wait time is going to be that long. George seemed more interested in answering phone calls than attending to waiting customers. I won t be back. For anyone calling, dial extension 2 to reach the Hertz Uber department.

Made an appointment online in the morning only to find when I got there that it would take 3-4 hours. Staff person said they were cancelling appointments made on previous days. I dont know why they were taking appointments in the morning if people with appointments made earlier were being cancelled. They need better management.

My fiancé booked two times to have her tires changed with them and both times she drove over the hill, had to take time off work and wait for her car to get tires. Unfortunately both times after she got there for her reservation, they let her know they didn t actually have the tires after all and blame their own website for the issues. Not a way of handling business. Choose elsewhere!

Their posted hours dont mean anything. If they say they might help you if you get there at 5:55 when theyre supposed to close at 7, you better get there at 5:54. Show up at 5:57 and boohoo, thats too bad for you. I doubt it would matter if you got there at 5:50.
Oil level was low after the service and they didn t rotate my tires. Going to check the oil filter to confirm it was changed. I doubt it.

Overall, the service is ok. If my car wasnt a part of the fleet program I would probably not return to Pep Boys. Sometimes It is extremely long waiting time of receiving service.

Got a pretty miserable experience changing the bad battery. I had issue starting my car after work, luckily see Pep Boys open until 7pm; got there at 6:30pm, only being told I have to come back again at 10:30 am when they have more hands; (during the visit, I saw the Pep Boys having an oral exchange/dispute with another customer for unknown reason, I should take this as a warning sign) Then I came back next day at 10:30, the Rep almost forgot me, then being told have to wait for 2 hours for service, I couldnt do that as I have to go to work; I asked could I borrow a wrench to do myself? The Rep said yes, but we dont have wrench, you have to buy next door; so I have to go next door, get hands dirty, even force to bend the fixture in the picture to take out the battery as I dont have the right tool to unscrew one of the screw, what a mess! Finally I took out the battery, went in, has to wait in line again for another 20mins to get the battery to put on myself. I have to say the Rep is not really happy at the job and doing a minimum to keep it going.

I was greeted with smiles and knowledge. That s rare at a tire shop from my experience. I didn t have an appointment, and nobody acted like I was an inconvenience. They found a screw in my tire and fixed that along the way. Overall I was in and out with no stresses whatsoever. What an awesome experience. No idea why this place has such low stars. If you care about your car and your driving safety, stay away from this place. If you want to have your car fixed instead of being messed up, stay away from this place. Obviously, those guys have been working way much harder to developed their shamelessness instead of their professionality. I came here to install tires for a 2018 Impreza. When I drove the car to the highway, I heard a very loud humming noise coming out somewhere from my car, which was something that has *never* happened. Clearly there was something wrong. The noise was so large that I can feel ear pain. I called them immediately, and scheduled an inspection the next morning. When I went in the second day, they first lied to me, saying there was nothing wrong. I insisted there is a noise, and they agreed with me after a test drive with me sitting in the car. So they started inspection. Later, the staff admitted that one of my rear-wheel bearing is the noise source, and they told me I need to pay an additional ~$400 to fix that, but still denying this is their fault. Clearly, they broke my bearing while tire and rotor installing, very likely due to large torque they added onto the bearing, and ask me to *pay them to make up for their own fault*. I refused, of course. I wont pay them for their fault, and more importantly, I dont trust their honesty, professionality and was worrying they will make the car situation even worse after their second suspicious surgery. If you are looking for honest and professional service, do not come here. I regret for not looking at the reviews before I went to the shop.
As most of other revivers I had bad experience. Very different (3-4x higher) price from what was quoted online. Justification that BMW needs special tools and has very complicated battery replacement process. Guy at reception was also confirming with mechanic on floor he can do such a complicated battery replacement. At that point I just canceled, the replacement, as too many red flags started to pop up (much higher price than original, uncertainty of mechanic if they can do battery replacement, not sure if they have right tools, ...). I ended up replacing battery myself, in ~15 min, I bought new one at OReilly Auto Parts and 10 dollar extended wrench, and watched 5 min YouTube video to learn how to do it. I saved hundreds of dollars, and hours of wait time. Anyway Im sure this guys are ok for some simple battery changes where it takes 30 sec to pop the hud and switch batteries. But my experience was terrible.

I rented from here almost 1 year. Everything good. Rebacca helps every problem. I am just disappointed with other. If they can t solve just give it to Rebacca please so that we don t have to be stressed neither waste of time.
I made an online appointment to have a nail removed from a tire on my car. After I parked by the service bays, I noticed that there was only one mechanic working on the one and only car in the garage. I walked into the waiting area and there were at least seven people sitting in chairs staring at their phones. The one person behind the counter asked me if I had an appointment. I said yes and gave him my name and then he told me that Pep Boys doesn t make same day appointments. I was confused because their website allowed me to do that. I told him I had a nail in my tire and he said he d honor the appointment but I would be behind all the other people that were sitting in the waiting area. Considering that there was only one service technician, I didn t like my chances on getting my car back any time soon. I told him I was going to go somewhere else. He recommended Beltran Tire Service in Redwood City. I was so glad he recommended them because they were amazing!!
People here are very nice and professional, but you need to call the shop to see if theres an appointment available - dont make one online.
I have a Lyft flex Drive fleet vehicle and I ve come exclusively here because they do a good job. They are approved by Lyft. Lyft prefers you to use their official Goodyear locations. However, in my experience these Goodyear locations are subpar. This Pep Boys location is super professional get the job done. Make sure you re safe to get on the road. Typically places hate dealing with Lyft flex. However, this place has been nothing but patient with me to get the job done and is probably the best tire shop I could recommend in the entire Peninsula.
If you need your cars serviced for the 5,000 mile interval Pennzoil Platinum synthetic motor oil change, tire rotation, and brake fluid flush in one location, then Pep Boys is your best stop because the parts and labor prices are reasonable and along with the choice of oil filers.
Ok service ,but I had to ask for my spare tire,that they had to find ,after the car was ready If I hadnt noticed I would have had real problems next time.

I went in for a tire inspection. They told me that all 4 tires needed replacement, whereas in reality only one of them did. I confirmed this by getting my tires checked at 2 other places. They dont have any sense of ethics and are just trying to rip you off.

This pepboys will try to upsell everything and use some pressuring sales tactics. I have a prepaid maintenance plan with them and have gone to several different locations and this is by far the worst experience. George contacted me that my tire tread was low and that I should look into replacing them. When I asked if I could come back a different day to do that he loudly told his coworker that I have an emergency and that they cant change the tires today. Then he tried to push the pep boys credit card on me. He also threw in the fuel tank cleaner and cabin air filter which sounded free because I had already asked about pricing but I found out it was not free upon pickup. On pickup they also tried to sell a battery to me because they had to jump my car to start it which was the first time this has happened. I took it to AutoZone after that to have them check the battery, where they said it was all good. The real issue is the alternator is going out which pepboys failed to identify. Really not satisfied with the mechanics here. If youre trying to sell me something at least identify the problem...

I tried another popular tire and auto repair service (FS) twice and both times the service was dishonorable and deceptive. I had my fingers crossed and hoped for the best in bringing my 2015 Toyota into this Pep Boys location. I did not mention my bad experience about the other auto service for I wanted to see if I would experienced genuine friendliness/customer service from this staff at this Pep Boys. My concerns were put at ease by the exceptional customer service provided by Pedro, George and Nicholas (Nick). Pedro was very knowledgeable and took time to explain what was happening with my car. An honest mechanic, which is hard to find.
After every inspection for the past 3 years, they tell me my brakes are good. The last few times, I was getting skeptical. I took my screeching car to a brakes place, $1000 on new rotors and brakepads. Add that to the fact they almost never schedule me when I call to request an appointment, they just tell me to come in, and whether they schedule me or not they can never provide me with service. If you have to go to pep boys, go to another one.

The guy that calls you to ask follow up questions when you book an appointment using their website could use a refresher course on how to politely communicate with their fellow human beings as well as the woman that puts together the receipt and paperwork for you at the end of your visit. They get some stars for getting my car done well before they said they would but that may have been because I stayed there and waited.

I had created an appointment on Wednesday night (7pm) for Thursday 3.30 pm (next day) to change break bulb of my CRV at San Carlos, CA. While creating appointment, they whole day slots were empty except few in the morning. I showed up 20mnt earlier on Thursday for the appointment. I was told by Mr Padre (I think that is the name) that they can t honor my appointment as it was made by the same day. I was not sure, how he is dealing with all other appointment as it was created in the same day because when I was creating the appointment, all the slots were empty. I believe the it just BS. Since it is a small work, they don t want me there. Next day I got an email from the PepBoys that I missed my appointment, and I can schedule again. Good thing happened on the whole deals is, I learned to change the bulb.
I love the customer friendliness that was given when I arrived there and prior when I called to confirm my appt. I felt the consistency of the tone of being taken care of. Especially when I know sometimes some questions may sound redundant to one, but they were nice about it.

Worst experience ever, do your self a favor and choose anywhere but here. I booked a service just to change oil, I dropped my car at 1pm, waited for the whole afternoon without hearing anything back. When I went back to the store before they close at 6pm, they told me the service hadn t started and asked me to wait another 2 or 3 hours as it means nothing and it shouldn t be big deal for me. I am shocked by their inefficiency and shamelessness!

Poor customer service, short staffed, doesnt respect appointment booked through Pepboys website (should have called directly), appointment scheduled a week directly - but slot not available the previous day and has to be a drop-off. Much more pleasant experience for old change at Jiffy Lube nearby.
Very rude, they hung up the phone while I was trying to schedule another appointment. I would not recommend this place.
I was greeted well. The staff immediately saw to my needs. Price for changing out my wheel and the spare less than $30. My tires were inspected and recommendations made. Overall good experience.

Here is what happened. I searched for car inspection, then google listed the 120 point car inspection from Pet Boys as a sponsored ads, I clicked through and made an appointment of 11:00am next day. Then Pet Boyds sent me an email to confirm that my appointment was scheduled. The next day, I spent 30 minutes drove to this location, there was barely any customers in the building, after 10 minutes of waiting, the receptionist told me that I need to bring my car in a different day, since there was no body handling this service right now. The whole thing is ridiculous, Pet Boys spent ads money, sent me confirmation, then told me it was just kidding. and It cost me multiple hours.

50% off most stuff in store. Bought windshield wipers at 50% off what a great price. Workers were great. They are keeping tires and parts everything else must go by Home Depot in San Carlos. Get everything while supplies last!!!!!

I made an appointment for an oil change almost a week in advance. When I arrived, they told me they did not have the right type of oil (5w20 full synthetic which is not exactly uncommon) nor the filter for my truck. If I have to put all of this information into the system when I made the appointment, youd think they could call ahead and let me know they didnt have the necessary materials. Beyond that, the guy at the counter was rude and dismissive when I asked for alternate solutions. I went across the street to Jiffy Lube and was in and out in 20 minutes. Much better service.
I did an oil change here but they didnt tighten the oil drain bolt afterwards, and oil was dripping out. Luckily I found that out only a couple of days later, otherwise my engine wouldve been damaged.
The team at Pep Boys was great. I needed to change my trailer tires out but didn t want to bring the trailer in. I showed up at 8am with the first set of tires and they swapped them out for me in under 90 minuets. Went home, installed those tires, jacked up the other side of the trailer to remove the final tires needing to be swapped. Dropped them off and they were done in under 45 minutes. Super fast, super professional.
Went in for Uber Hertz Desk, friendly guy, quick service but they dont have a car was station so I ended up getting a really dirty car on the outside...
Pedro is the best! I d *just* gotten a ticket for a burned out brake light, on the day before my surgery, so I pulled into Pep Boys, hoping to buy a bulb that a friend would be able to put in over the next couple of weeks before I could drive. Pedro got the part, and installed it with the greatest of care. Thank you Pedro and Pep Boys!
