5/5 Excellent. They were able to take my vehicle in on very short notice and returned it to me in better condition. It was also for a service which wasn't listed on their website. So I was skeptical when first contacting them if they could even do it. However, my doubts quickly changed when I called and visited the shop. I'd like to give special recognition to Robert. He was the primary representative I spoke and met with. I believe he does a fantastic job and gave superior customer support throughout the process. Robert was welcoming and kept me informed on my vehicle's status and at no time did I feel pressured or manipulated to make a decision I didn't want. I briefly spoke and met with others and they were friendly too, which is reflected in the company's high reviews. A+ was a pleasant experience that I didn't expect. Based on that, I plan on being a repeat customer for check-ups or future vehicle questions. I will also recommend A+ to others.

My Honda accord has a check engine light on and is jerking while driving, then it was diagnosed as misfiring in cylinder 3 based on the error code. But they would like to do additional tests to identify the exact problem. After they did comprehensive diagnostic tests, the root cause for this problem was identified. It was due to the spark plug problem. It saves a substantial amount of money and reduces repairing time. Many thanks to Justin and A+ Japanese Auto repair team. I was looking for a local garage for our 2012 Minicooper Countryman. Generally the car goes to a Mini dealer for regular service because we believe in regular maintenance, but based on the reviews, we thought we would give A+ a try. A+ is wonderful. Customer service is first rate - friendly, professional, and efficient. They did an outstanding job of providing information about the car - more than 75 evaluated items and a 30 page report on their findings. We have never know so much about the car. Minimal work was done besides the inspection - oil change and topping off the coolant. However, the car now runs better than it has in years! It runs better than when the car leaves dealership service. We don't know how they improved the car's operation so much with so little done to it. Cars must like them! We certainly do.
Came here to address a knocking noise coming out of the engine bay of my 2008 Honda Odyssey. Scheduling through the website was convenient. Got a call within 15 minutes to confirm my appointment and to let me know that they can send a tow truck should the van deemed un-drivable or potentially dangerous to operate. Good start. At the appointment Albert was assigned to me, walked me through the process, explained what they will do, how they will communicate with me, get approval and the cost at each step of the way. A technician went on a ride with me so I could point out the noise. Another came to verify and make sure we're aligned on the problem. 3 hours after drop-off I received a link to detailed documentation with images of the condition of the vehicle. They had inspected close to 70 items on the van and taken images, likely also video to point out any issues. Albert called to go through everything they found during the inspection which accumulated to a valve adjustment, brakes, bushings and control arms for a vehicle with 109K miles on it. All items and their condition were documented in detail and on image (broken bushings etc.) or reported down to the percentage of O2% in the brake fluid, it should be 0%. The total proposed repairs were $4200. He suggested to focus on the knocking noise and brakes for safety purpose and the rest when able to. Real world recommendation. I approved the work and they were going to start the next morning as the valves needed to be completely cold to be adjusted. The following morning Albert called at 8:30 to let me know that the mechanics went through the van before starting the work and identified that the root of the knocking could not be rectified with valve adjustments and that the valves were likely damaged which would possibly require a rebuild or engine replacement. Neither of which would have been reasonable considering the age and mileage of the vehicle. They put everything back, cleaned the engine bay and charged me $0 for the entire thing. Not even for the initial diagnostic. I can't speak to their mechanical abilities, yet, but if it is anywhere close to the care they've demonstrated (Elaine recommending a towing truck for safety, mechanics double checking before starting the work) the transparency of Albert's communication and integrity of doing what's best for the client is an indicator; then I anticipate exceptional mechanic work.
A+ Japanese Auto Repair has exceeded my expectations. I'm glad I found them after struggling to find a reliable shop. The shop is clean and organized, reflecting the high quality of their work. I worked with Justin, and he was incredibly helpful, especially in resolving an insurance issue I had. His patience, clear communication, and professionalism made a stressful situation much easier. I'll be requesting him for future visits whenever possible. Sometimes, your vehicle isn't about you, but about the people and pets you transport in your vehicle. In our case, our Nissan Rogue is our dog Mollie's vehicle; she has been traveling to the beach at least four times a week for almost 10 years. Mollie is old and very arthritic; she has hip dysplasia such that we must lift her into her car with a sling. Her Nissan also shows much wear and tear inside because of her years of trips to the beach. However, her Nissan is the only vehicle in which she will ride, therefore we knew we needed to get her Nissan repaired when it broke down. We initially had the vehicle towed to the dealership. After running diagnostics, they were not able to definitively confirm the problem. We therefore had Mollie's Nissan towed to A+ Japanese Auto Repair. Manager Justin and the entire team at A+ took the time to listen to our concerns. Justin, in fact, conducted research and determined what he believed the issue to be. He and his team ordered the part needed, did required programming, and repaired Mollie's Nissan. We are so happy! Mollie is ecstatic; she now has her vehicle back and is able to go to the beach again. Many thanks to Justin and the A+ Japanese Auto Repair team. Excellent job!
I researched this place and found them to be quite good in reviews. From my first time experience with them, they seem good in some things, but also quite in need of improvement on other things (as all people should progress for). Got my car worked on by them for a used car inspection to see if there were any issues the dealer did not find or discovered. Got some work done after. When I tried asking about my status of the car with the used car inspection and the work done after, we played some phone tag due to both of us getting busy during the work week. Although that was not an issue, when they reached out to me, there were no voicemail information on the status of my work orders. They told me just to call them back. Hence, the continuation of phone tag if we were both busy. I was able to pick up my car after hours though when all the work has been done. When I inspected the car, I noticed a wheel nut loose, but they fixed it the next day and provided me a ride back to pick up my car. However, they charged me again with the service that was done to my car when I already have paid. So, I had to call one more time to ask them about things related to my car. They of course resolved it. One thing I did not ask was for them to change my front license plate. I will be replacing that for I am a little embarrassed repping this establishment after all that happened. Do appreciate the work they do. It’s just the organization of it all is what they need to work on. I got a 3-year warranty on the replaced parts so that’s a nice bonus. And the free shuttle back to your respective place is nice too. But not sure if I will be going back here again.

Thank goodness I found an honest and competent auto repair shop. I, unfortunately, trusted the Lexus dealer to do an expensive, major service that they did not fully complete, which affected my transmission (not to mention other signs of carelessness)! My car, for the first time ever, started driving poorly. A+ Japanese Auto Repair confirmed my suspicions and got my car back in proper shape. Albert is so knowledgeable and helpful. Used to bring my Rav 4 here. They would take a whole day for and oil chang and inspection and always tried to upsel me on something. Also their representative system always felt slimy like a car salesperson. Lots of other shops in the area that will do good work without the hassle.

Summary: Well meaning but incompetent! Brought a Toyota Tacoma to A+ for a simple u-joint replacement. After having the truck for most of the day, Robert informed me that the drive shaft was aftermarket, and they werent willing to replace the u joint (an $80 part) without replacing the drive shaft ($1,000+). Hearing that Toyota sold me a truck with an aftermarket drive shaft didnt make much sense, and was a bit stressful to say the least! It turns out the shaft IS original, not aftermarket. Another shop replaced the u-joint in an hour. A+ didnt charge me anything, and wasnt pushing the $1,000 repair, so I dont think they were trying to rip me off. However, their incompetence cost them money, and both of us a lot of time. After the repair, I tried to contact Rob twice to provide the correct information. He simply failed to reply to the goodwill gesture. A+ talks a good game about transparency. However, all I saw was confusion!

Quoted me an extra $250 to change my cabin and air filters which is $20 in parts and a few minutes of work. I said no. Also quoted me tires that were way above the price I can get at other places. Their report was thorough but I dont trust they are trying to get me the best deal. Also they reported the wrong milage to Carfax. And that cant be changed for 2 years apparently.

Went in to do a general service for my car and they always do a very detailed breakdown of the health of your car (from great condition to needs to be addressed soon). They accompany these detailed breakdowns with pictures and explanations to show why they are in the red needs repair area. Customer service is always very responsive and kind with prices that are fairly competitive at other repair locations. I would highly recommend their service for anyone.

My main gripe was how long it took. I was originally told that my seasonal maintenance check-up was going to be 4 hours. I dropped it off at 7:40 AM and picked it up around 4:40 PM, meaning I waited 9 hours, which really threw off my day, and waited an additional 20 minutes after arriving at the time I was told for pick up. The check up seemed thorough but settings on my car were changed (dashboard display, mirror movement for park assistance, etc), adding to my frustration. Friendly staff but would not come again. If you go, just know your car will be there all day.

Quite luxurious for a car maintenance shop. Free car ride to/from the shop, snazzy comms platform (automated text notifications, account portal where you can see reports with photos / comments), instantly accessible sales staff even at late hours in the evening, no wait to get an appointment, & easter egg perks stemming from partnerships with other businesses. Its on the pricey side, but these are services that can be worth paying for if you are short on time and want to prioritize convenience / excellent customer service. Only downside is that inspections take an entire day before you can even figure out what work needs to be done. You drop-off the car first thing in the morning and get a call in the afternoon on recommended service. Also, sometimes I get a sales-y vibe from the front desk staff walking me through optional services, but again, if you want all the bells and whistles, this could be a perk not an annoyance.

I happened to drive by A+ Japanese Auto Repair yesterday afternoon and remembered all the great reviews I had read about them, so I decided to stop and make an appointment. Once there, I realized it was already after their closing time, so I was going to come back next week, but then Justin walked up to my car and asked if he could help answer any questions. I explained that I wanted to schedule a maintenance check of my 2008 Honda Fit since I had recently noticed one of my headlight was out, so I would have it all done at once. Justin looked at my service sticker and determined I had another 1000 miles before the next one was due. But then he said, Come back tomorrow morning so we can fix the headlight while you wait.. I hesitated to make a commitment for the next day, since it was my birthday, but realized it would be good to take care of the issue so I could start driving at dark again. Therefore, I came back this morning and they fixed it for me while I was waiting! Super convenient and so accommodating... and when I was ready to pay, Justin said it was a birthday gift! What a great surprise!!! I will definitively be back as Im wholeheartedly agreeing with all those people who are impressed with A+ Japanese Auto Repair. Thank you, Justin!

Brought my car in to get some major love and was recommended by a friend to A+ Japanese Auto Repair. Scheduling my appointment was super easy using their online tool. I knew what I wanted but it was really helpful that A+ performed a complete evaluation of my car. I worked closely with Albert, he was SUPER responsive and transparent. I am so happy that I took my car to A+ and that I worked with Albert. I will definitely recommend to my friends/family.

Came here just to get a car diagnostic, and I ended up wasting 5 hours. They looked at my car for 20 minutes, and then one of the guys drove off my car to hell knows where and was gone for one and a half hours. I thought he was test driving it, but since he was gone for so long, I went to ask the manager where the car was and he replied that the car was in the building with them and that they were working on it, which was a lie because I saw the guy drive off with my car and not come back for over an hour. And then the guy who took the car came back and gave me the keys.
A Plus did a great job and got it done by the time I needed it. In the midst of moving, I scheduled an oil change and other repairs because I knew the auto shop would be hands off, capable and reliable. Communication with Katie was great and she went the extra mile to explain all the repairs in an easy to understand way and watched for traffic to help us get in and out of the shop. I appreciate their focus on reviewing a cars history through car fax, like how doctors look at my medical history, to inform whether or not a repair is due or can be done later. It feels like they care more about my cars well being more than I do, which is why I trust them. Lastly, I need to find cost savings where I can and Im thankful they sent a coupon in the mail and found a way to save on labor costs. Pro tip: they service non-Japanese cars as well!

They also offer Lyft rides to and from the shop, as well as a shop car for rent while theyre servicing your car. And I am always treated with respect when were discussing my car. SCAM! they tried to swindle over $2,000 out of me. I took my car in for an oil change, they told me they found two other issues that would cost around $2,600 to repair. I told them not to fix anything. They argued with me telling me my car was unsafe to drive off the lot (it was fine). I took my car to a different spot, they repaired the problems for less than $200. I really feel like they pegged me as a girl who knew nothing about cars, they picked the wrong target. Do not trust this shop.
I was not pleased with the cost of the service. I feel ripped off. Over $500 for the labor to diagnostic and a replacement of a EVAC Purge valve, and the parts price was also inflated. And on top of that, they charged me almost $200 for an oil change. It cost me just short of $1000 for the EVAC Purge valve replacement and an Oil Change.. They also tried to push me to do a bunch of other work. I came in for a check engine light. NOT a full vehicle inspection.

If you take your Japanese-made vehicle to the folks at A+ Japanese Auto Repair for services, small or large, your car will exclaim, Sugoi (Japanese for awesome)! They provide an enjoyable customer journey from beginning to end for both you and your car. They tick all the boxes - Outstanding auto care? Check! Friendly, Dream Team customer service? Check! Transparent diagnosis and pricing? Check! Id actually give them a doublecheck for the last one. After they diagnose your car they give you an inspection report. Like a report card. They look at everything, inside and out, and tell you whats good, whats not-so-good, and whats yikes! When done you get a report with pictures of the parts that are yikes. Pictures. Where you get to actually see what youve been risking your life driving on for the last 50 miles. Its like seeing your CT scan or dental x-rays. Ive never experienced anything like this with an auto garage team. So, definitely work with A+ as your cars doctor if you want to receive solid, reliable auto care from an above-the-rest team of lovely people.
I brought in my FJ Cruiser to have it inspected after the dealer recommended work to be done, and was treated in a very professional, and friendly, manner. Brent was great to work with, keeping me apprised of what the inspection uncovered, and ultimately reducing a potential $7000 bill to about $1000. Communication was outstanding throughout the process, and I would highly recommend A+ Japanese Auto Repair.

I stopped at, and rejected two other shops because of a lack of interest or confidence in diagnosing and repairing my Tacoma before trying A+ Japanese Auto Repair. Katie, the service representative, was attentive and listened to my long winded description of my issue before assigning a service tech to go for a ride to experience first hand the problem I was having. I was fairly confident that they would eventually find and fix the unusual problem that I was having, which they did, but it was the excellent up front customer service from Katie that convinced me to give them a shot. Their knowledgeable and efficient service team will get me back in the future, but it was their customer service, from clearly explaining every step of the process to arranging Lift rides to and from their shop, that got me in the door.

I reached out to A+ Japenese Auto Repair for a quote on a new engine. I d never been there, but after calling a number of East Bay shops who didn t do that work, I found them on the internet. Thankfully, Katie had me take a step back and offered a second opinion engine assessment before taking my request. The findings of my usual service provider could not be confirmed and it was determined that I didn t need a new engine. They provided a very thorough summary of their findings so I could easily determine what was needed immediately vs what could wait. I was also provided a loaner car while my car was being serviced. I was so pleased with Katie s A+++ customer service. She followed thru on all promised calls and kept me in the loop on everything. She made such a difference in my experience. Top notch service and total transparency here! Needed service for my out of warranty Civic and decided to come here. They offer pick up and drop off which makes it convenient given my work schedule. They ended up needing to do more work than expected, but they explained why most of it was necessary along with the pricing. The online portal they use made it easy to understand what they were charging for. Definitely cheaper than going to the dealership for the same services. Overall, I had a positive experience here!

I took my 2013 Toyota Camry with over 100,000 miles to A+ Japanese Auto Repair for the first time and I was extremely pleased with the people and the service. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. After an extensive inspection and road test, I was provided with the costs of the service. Pictures were sent to me showing the wored parts that needed replacing. I received an update phone call telling me the progress of the service and a final phone call when the service was completed and I can pickup the car. I am very happy to discover A+ Japanese Auto Repair.

I felt very taken care of at this place when they were taking care of an issue with my clutch pedal sensor switches. They informed me of some other maintenance issues I had been neglecting, (which at first blush felt a little like an upsell) but at this point Id rather have the peace of mind knowing its done. Once the car is dropped off, they do offer a free ride back home (probably within reason). Once it was ready to pick up the transition went smoothly. Everyone I interacted with was very nice from start to finish. Do keep in mind the service intervals specific to your car (especially newer ones). Some of them vary wildly between makes and models, and sometimes shops dont always keep specific information on your car available.

They were very accommodating to me. I asked for an appointment yesterday, they penciled me in this morning and I was in and out in about two hours. I took my car in for a brake fluid exchange. After the job was done, I took the car out and it was like the brakes on a new car! Definitely noticed the difference, I ll go back again.

Red Triangle of Death Our Service Manager Brent was superb for us! More than pleased. He explained what needed to be done, why it needed to be done in a manner that was very understandable. He kept us informed as the work progressed and the follow up was excellent. He really made us feel comfortable and that he cared. As far as the repairs, they diagnosed the problem quickly and we received an estimate the next day. The repairs solved all three problems affecting our Prius. Drives like new. Very good experience at this shop. Did a vehicle inspection report which was very comprehensive with detailed pictures. Had AC issues on my prius. They gave an initial estimate and were clear on the price. The report highlighted stuff which needed to be fixed now with backing evidence which was really nice. Katie my service manager was super sweet and took time to explain everything. Wish I had found them sooner :-)

Ive been going to A+ Japanese Auto Repair for the past year since buying a Prius. Everyone who works there is so kind and professional. They do all work quickly and the customer is always kept in the loop about what is happening. Their after hours drop off and complementary rides are very welcome and Ive never seen those at any other auto shop Ive been to. So far Ive only had wonderful experiences!

My family brought our cars here when we lived in the Bay, and after a few years living in another state, I moved back and brought my car in for a regular service. Justin remembered my family after all those years and took great care of the car. A few weeks later I kept hearing a rattle when I was driving, so I took the car in and they checked it out - even getting a mechanic to ride with me on the highway to make sure they were hearing the same sound. Turns out living in a snowy place makes your car rust and rattle! Everything was resolved quickly and with great communication. Justin also called a lyft for me when I had to leave my car for an extended service, just highlighting how great this place is and how well they take care of their customers. They always send a report of what theyve found and discuss next steps and what they recommend verus what you can save until the next visit. Overall an amazing experience. AAA dropped my car off after hours after blowing out my tire. Although they were only open half the day the next day, they were able to find and install a replacement tire before closing for the Christmas holiday. Throughout the morning, I received phone calls with up to date information and very transparent explanations of potential costs (the final amount was lower than the initial estimate!). When I went to pick up my car, they even checked my mom s tire pressure when she mentioned her pressure alert was on when she dropped me off!

I highly recommend A+ auto, as they provide quality repairs and have amazing customer service. I originally took my car to A+ auto in 2023, as it had not been inspected for a while and was having some issues. They did a really thorough inspection and walked me through each one of the issues the car had. Katie was very clear with me about what work couldn t wait and what work I may want done at a future date, so this was very helpful when making my decision about what to fix immediately. After the repairs, the car ran great and the original issues I had were gone. Fast forward to 2024, that same car was unfortunately broken into with significant damage to the steering column and ignition. Katie and the team worked with my insurance company to get the car back into a safe, driving condition and helped me tremendously during what was a very stressful time. Katie went above and beyond during this process, keeping me updated every step of the way and advocating for repairs that would ultimately ensure the car was safe to drive. A+ Japanese Auto took a stressful situation and turned it into as pleasant of an experience as they could. Our van was over heating so we contacted A+, they sent someone to our house to take a look and pickup the vehicle from my wife s workplace. Turned out to be a busted radiator and would take a few days to fix due to parts needed. We go to use our backup vehicle it won t start! A+ to the rescue again, they sent someone to jump the vehicle but it wouldn t hold a charge, the battery needed to be changed and A+ got it done. Days after the radiator was fixed Justin gave us a call just to check how things were going with the van, talk about above and beyond customer service!

I ve used Aplus auto repair intermittently over the last several years (Prius,Sequoia,RAV4) and while the repair work does get completed, I find that I have to constantly battle with the service advisors, who lean towards up charging and recommending unnecessary repairs. The most recent experience was a charge of $250 to diagnose a growling in the rear of the car with a recommendation to replace the differential (no reason why).The fact they did not know about or mention the technical service bulletin Toyota had put out, potentially identifying, the problem was brought to their attention with assurances I would hear back from the mechanic/ service advisor, but I never did. A waste of $250 and a lack of confidence in their competency.

Outrageous prices, confusing communication.I went and got a second opinion and was told that over half of the urgent items A+ suggested were actually not urgent at this time. The only urgent issue I did have, I was able to fix for half the price of what A+ quoted me.

This placed saved me over $5000. My wife heard a weird water noise under the car. We brought it in, they were amazing when we called, they were very flexible with our availability. ROB Helped us out, hands down the most amazing person. They found a clogged AC pipe that was seeping under the passenger floor that caused really bad mold expensive fix. Rob asked us if we had full coverage, we did!! I would have never thought to check!! We contacted our insurance and sure enough this was covered by insurance. It took a few weeks but rob made sure to update us every chance he could. Rob advocated for us and made sure insurance covered the majority of the bill. I can t say enough how amazing rob was, honest and full of integrity. Japanese auto can be trusted 100% they stand behind their quality work!!!thank you!

Rob and the team took my car in the same morning that I called when my starter went out, and I needed to get it towed there. Once the car was there, they did an inspection and emailed over a detailed report with pictures. I have ~230k miles on the car which is a 1998 model so wasnt surprised by the amount of work needed despite having always kept it well maintained. 2 days later, the car was ready and drives like brand new! Thanks to the team at A+ Japanese!

Working with A+ Japanese Auto Repair was great. I called three times before taking my car in to replace a flat tire and all three times the person on the phone was helpful and friendly. Once I took the car in, Justin helped me evaluate the need for new tires, explained why he made the recommendations that he did, and walked me through what was going to happen. They ordered my tires the same day and I had my car back the next business day. I 100% recommend them for timely service, trustworthiness, and friendliness.
