Karl's Transmission provides transmission services, including transmission rebuilds and repairs, and general auto maintenance services in the Rancho Cucamonga, CA area.
Brought a C4 that had been previously rebuilt at another shop from the guy I bought it from. About 6 months ago I put it in the car and had no forward gears, called Karl’s. He says only way they’ll do anything is if they do the whole job. 800 plus any needed parts. I pulled the trans brought it to them, they took it apart found the previous builder didn’t install a snap ring correctly but they said it was all good otherwise. $800.00 for a bench job. Little high I thought but I need it so whatever. They gave it back said it’s good, and I put it in, still no forward gears. I pull the trans again. Brought it back Ismael at Karl’s he told me that their builder(who’s only part time and never there) forgot to install a check valve ball. Oops. So sorry for the inconvenience. Been driving the car 6 months since they had it. Yesterday trans quit working again, no forward gears. Ismael at Karl’s says $450 for r&r, and there’s no warranty says “all we did is assemble it”. Wants full money rebuild like two grand. What a joke. Save your time and money and go somewhere competent.
Had my Transmission done here about a year ago. I was freshly new into town and since then, Ismael has been super helpful not only when I have questions about transmissions but just about anything. Has pointed me in the right direction any time I’ve asked him about a certain type of service even if it’s one he doesn’t provide.
0 stars. Called to ask if this shop does transmission flushes and if so the price. In a not pleasant tone, instead of answer to the questions I got the beginnings of a lecture/education on why he doesn't do them. When i hesitated to speak he hung up the phone
Trustworthy and honest shop! I called around looking for someone to repair my truck after my Ford C6 transmission failed catastrophically leaving me stranded on the side of the road. After calling several places, Ismael made me feel comfortable over the phone and gave me ballpark quotes from the worst possible scenario to the best. I got a tow and drop off for my truck that same day (Thursday). They were able to get me in right away and told me that they would have a diagnosis by Friday and most likely repaired by Monday. In less than 24 hours they had my truck completely repaired, test driven, and the total was less than the original quote! These guys had the entire job completed early, under budget, and done right. Ismael and Roger went above and beyond for me and I cannot thank them enough.
I went there to get a quote after getting the quote I asked for time to think. Next day I reject the quote and try to pick up the car but Ismael the owner refuses to give me back my car. I ended up fixing it with him only to have the transmission break a year and 5 months later. I had to get a new transmission done by an honest mechanic this time. I bet those 5 star reviews are fake. I saw one calling him honest he is anything but honest. Be ware
Are you kidding me? Not only is the best transmission shop in all of Southrrn California, it is the most honest and friendy place i have ever been to. And the guy who took care of me, Mayo, had me laughing the entire time i was waiting for my vehicle to be serviced. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for honesty and quality.
As a business owner honesty, skill and competence are never a sacrificed. I took one of our work trucks in for a transmission rebuild. They showed me the damaged parts took the time to explain the solution and cost. When the truck was returned they showed me the gears that came out and the new ones they replaced. When I drove the vehicle I heard a whining noise that was not present before. I asked them about it and they said it was normal. Being skeptical I said "tell ya what I will take it to another shop and if they say no you fix if they say yes we are good agreed" without hesitation they agreed. Not trusting another repair shop, because they have something to gain, I instead took it to a manufacturer who does not do repairs at all. They confirmed everything Karal's tod me and that I actually got a heavy duty parts. Karal's is honest and competent and a great value. Thumbs up for the good guys.
Dropped off my car for a new clutch and 3 weeks later was called to pick up my car as they informed me that they couldn't start my car but I needed to pick it up. Turns out the shotty mechanic Roger thought he'd take a short cut and not disconnect my battery as he fixed my car which caused my whole starter system to lock up and then him as well as the manager of this crap hole refused to fix what they broke. Now I know mechanics are a whole other breed of business people, but this is a new low for mechanics. I'm disgusted at this, but you can bet I am not taking this sitting down. I have started by contacting the licensing boards, and they are not too happy. BUYER BEWARE
