In 2024 my car’s smog test failed, so I sought help from the Bureau of Automotive Repair for registered and approved auto repair shops, and was fortunate to be helped by their customer service representative who referred approved facilities who were very helpful, and via the shop’s manager suggestions, my car passed the smog test.

The guyvwas biased for automotive repairahop and dealerships he kept digging in my thing he kept making excuses and got attitude with me I told him he sounds like ur making a biased opnion for car sales but I have 4k in repairs and he said file a complaint against me and I am call happened 11.02 am the guy was a dirt bag I don't know why he was like this dude just give me the info move on vs having a biased opnion he said he worked at car deals hip and said anyone could have argument for anything

Their "investigations" are the typical government investigations, where they look like they are doing work to justify their existence when in reality they aren't doing anything. No question in my mind that they exist primarily to protect the interests of dealerships, repair shops, etc. to the detriment, not for the benefit, of the consumer. With no enforcement authority, it's a slap on the wrist at best.

I have interacted with the Bureau of Automotive Repair (B.A.R.) for as long as I have had my smog license-which has been approx. 35 years. There have been times that I felt I was just a number in software data. Things get locked in software-so to say-and sometimes it is extremely frustrating to make changes. Thru the years I have seen changes not in how things are done, but attitudes of the employees. They are not so machine like. Keep morphing B.A.R. Can't wait to see what the future holds for us. I have sent my information over multiple times. Still somehow no license. Very frustrating and the some of the agents are so disrespectful. Some think they are actual police! Come on.... Is this America we live in?

Horrible customer service! They consistently give out wrong information causing delays and frustration. Employees are given limited access to individual accounts so are not able to give out accurate information. The whole process is very disorganized. The criteria used to determine income is inaccurate and random! I agree with another reviewer in the fact that they note your chart for previous bad phone conversations. Horrible agency! I will be filing a complaint.

As Liz V said Matthew Rodriguez is a no nothing typical state agency supervisor. he does not have a clue but because he knows how to lick the correct boots he got promoted to supervisor. Sad thing is Liz probably knows more than he does about cars.

Mathew Rodriguez is rude unprofessional man that plays narcissistic role of telling him your making him do something. Blatant disregard of consumer protection. Pf all levels even when the facts are present. Things he knows hybrid can ne worked on any shop any wants to your wrong. Enjoys belittling . Disgraceful man hard to believe hes an advocate fir bad work on cars. not one part of helping a complaint was present.

They have a long response time, sent them the information at the beginning March and got a reply in April. and that is with regular mail in which it should have arrived 3-5 days- business days. Edit: after my experience I realized that they just needed a little more info, no biggie-- bumped it up because it just took 2 days for a reply that it had gotten approved Tip: prepare ALL paperwork within a month, you do not want to rush this

Without the BAR my case that I had with an unlicensed individual who held my truck hostage for 10 months while nothing was done to it would have been more difficult, The report that was sent to the court was based on facts.. The Judge opened the sealed report, After he read it the judge made his decision for me.. So Thank You!!!

Wait times are very short, even though theres only three people that pick up the phone. If you make any of them mad on the phone they will put a notation next to your name so next time when they pick up the phone theyll make things harder on you. Long story short they screwed me up bad and unfairly.

I am not a drinker but I can say that I really appreciate the BAR. Smh. I know that was pretty bad wasnt it? Well I just cant help it. On a serious note I can appreciate what the BAR is trying to achieve and even though I have been slapped by them my self for not being on my A game I have no quorums with the bureau. Their new office is remote and very clean. I appreciate the positive attitudes of the staff and the willingness to work with people like myself who arent the best at making deadlines and following ALL the directions sometimes.

I had a issue with Niello BMW on Fulton Ave and after contacting the BBB they told me to contact the Bureau of Automotive Repair and so I did and thank god I did cause they were the middle man who went and investigated my complaint without being bias and came back with some good information. They ended up helping me get $2500 of $8000 I spent in repairs that I feel were unnecessary due to the fact that I had my transmission light come on clearly there was a problem but they said they needed to fix all this other stuff and that would correct the transmission. Well all the work they did and I still needed a new transmission Bmw couldnt confirm that but Star Tech of Vacaville was right on. They had my car 2 hours and told me I need a new transmission. So I went ahead and now I have a life time warranty on it as long as I have the car. But I was headed to small claims and the investigator who Im thankful for said take the money they offered you and go for repair elsewhere. Being on the outside looking at both sides I feel they where fair even thought he did tell me some things I disagreed with. But they will always be my go to whenever I have an issue with any automotive repair shop that wants to get over on consumers and that is exactly what Niello has done and continue hes to do.
