1111 Lighthouse Ave, Pacific Grove, CA 93950, United States
Homey rooms & suites, some with balconies & fireplaces, plus free Wi-Fi, parking & breakfast.
We had a lovely six night stay here. It’s an old school resort which we loved. Interior filled with live plants and trees which were maintained and trimmed while we were here. We enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub and pool daily. The rooms are large, clean and beds comfortable. Cleaning of rooms is done every 3 days and done throughly. Nice breakfast with bagels, fruit, hard boiled eggs, muffins and more from 7:30-10 AM daily. Kallai and Josephine manned the front desk and were kind, accommodating and helpful! Great location. Walkable to Pacific Grove restaurants and the coast. We left our car parked and used the bus to go all around the county. A 7 day bus pass was $10 for seniors. Loved it here!
Very good rate for ATT golf weekend $150 th nite. Nice heated pool, hot tub sauna free breakfast. It was good for sure. Room was clean. Staff quite friendly, free parking. Great location near the attractiond aquarium etc, golf, beach.
Hotel is in a great location. Close walk to the pacific grove coastline. Quiet area in a nice neighborhood. Hotel itself is on the older side, and rooms are a dated, but they are comfortable and a good size. Mine came with a fireplace as well with one free duraflame log. Hotel has a continental breakfast with bagels/coffee/eggs/fruit, etc. Hotel has a heated pool and hot tub, which were nice to wind down after a day out. Staff was nice. Good deal for the price. Would stay again
We stayed during the week, and it was very quiet all 3 nights. The rooms were clean and about what I'd expect for the price. Great location
The location of this place is great. It's centrally located to downtown Pacific Grove but tucked away enough to be quite peaceful and quiet. The hotel itself and our room were both very clean and well maintened. The staff were super friendly and made check-in and check-out easy. The only reason I'm knocking the rating to 3/5 down is because the beds are so very uncomfortable. We found it near impossible to sleep and woke up feeling sore. Beds are hard, but somehow also bouncy? You can feel all the springs of the mattress. Would love to stay here again if they could upgrade to new beds.
Nice place of of town. However the needs are very hard and bouncy at the same time. Very dated rooms but cozy with lots of space. The breakfast that is included is not much to be excited about. It's essentially Costco at the breakfast. Muffins, rolls, bread, fruit, hard boiled eggs etc. Not great. They need to get a waffle maker or something, some meat at breakfast and update the beds. That alone would get them a 4 of 5. But it's not a bad place to stay.
The location is good and the room was fine, but avoid staying there on a Sunday night at all costs. Starting sometime early in the morning on Monday, maybe 6AM, a plethora of annoying garbage/recycling trucks start making loud noise all around the hotel. It seemed like it would never end, going on for probably an hour or more. It was also strange that the continental breakfast lacked cereal, and I think “heated pool” is a stretch. I couldn’t bring myself to get all the way in albeit on a cloudy day. Hot tub is good though!
This place was lovely. It is quiet and clean. The whole place is a bit 1970s- tastic and could use a bit of updating, but that's part of the charm. You can hear the ocean at night if you open the sliding door. The room did not have AC, but did have a fire place. Breakfast was only various breads (bagel, muffin, croissant). Spa was too cold to use. Would definitely stay again. Great location and beautiful
Nice and cosy place to stay!
Adorable hotel. Nice, very helpful staff. Great continental b-fast!
Rooms: A somewhat outdated hotel, city center, clean bathroom. Food and drinks: Very good breakfast
I chose the Monarch Resort by chance, as there are many accommodation options in this area. I was very pleasantly surprised. The room was very large, clean, and there was a real fireplace where you could light a fire. Theres a sauna, a pool, and a hot tub. The breakfast could have been expanded to include more cold cuts and cheese, but it was fine as it was. The location is excellent. Quiet, close to the beach, and with private parking. We were only there for one night, but we could have happily stayed for a week.
Used it as a transit stop and it was absolutely fine. Fair price and included a small breakfast. Its very close to the Pacific Ocean, which you can hear from the hotel.
Cozy spot for a weekend getaway. Took Mrs. Always here for her birthday and we were positively charmed by the woodsy ambiance and working fireplace. The room was clean and the bed was springy, plenty of towels provided. The breakfast spread was adequate. My only complaint: the clerk who checked us in spoke to me in a condescending tone of voice--first impressions are important. Bonus: if youre a smoker, they offer a comfortable smoking section on the grounds with seating.
To. Expensive.
We recently stayed at the monarch resort, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. Upon entering the room, I was greeted by a strong, musty odor that permeated every corner, making me and my wife nauseous and unable to relax. While the location was convenient, I would not recommend the monarch resort due to the unpleasant odor and lack of proper maintenance. When I brought it to the staffs attention and informed them I would not be staying there they refused to give me a refund
Rooms: The room was clean and comfortable and very quiet Nearby activities: Close to Monterey, just a few miles away from Cannery Row and Aquarium and downtown Monterey. Great location, nice hot tub and heated pool also a sauna, my friend and i enjoyed each one of these after a 5 yr drive and then a walk around cannery Row, beds were comfy, had a nice bath, complimentary breakfast was decent. I would stay here again. Safety: Very safe and lovely area Food and drinks: Free breakfast is decent
Very nice and comfortable resort, great room, great breakfast
We loved it here! It was very peaceful, a quick walk to the ocean and the start of asilomar trail. Room had everything we needed including a fridge and microwave. One log provided each night for the fireplace. It s true they only service rooms every third day but we requested one sooner and it was no problem. Would happily stay here again.
Nice rooms, the fireplace with free Duraflame logs was a nice touch. The bed was a little small for the two of us. A friendly raven even stopped by. Walkability: Great neighborhood for walking around here, but no real amenities nearby.
Me and my husband went on a vacation
Loved everything about this place. Great service and nice room with patio. Cool pool and hot tub and good little breakfast bar for light breakfast
This hotel was really nice, nothing really stood out to me being over the top, nice heated pool jacuzzi, continental breakfast need some work
Old but nice. Price is right. Would come back.
Finally, a hotel worthy of the name! The staff is friendly. This is only the second one in 10 days where Ive slept well! The windows are soundproof, as are the walls. Aside from the trash cans at 8 a.m., I didnt hear much. The spa is super pleasant and warm, especially with a cold wind. The breakfast is complete, and the orange juice is good what a change! The Wi-Fi works very well. On the other hand, there were only two towels for four people... We still made the most of it. Rooms: The rooms are more than large enough for several nights, even though we only stayed for one. There was a fireplace with a $5 log if needed. Two extra towels would have been useful. Noteworthy details: Quiet and super cute neighborhood
Spys stay here so dont look suspicious Food and drinks: The hard boiled eggs at breakfast are perfectly cooked Rooms : 5/5 |
Very nice room. Love the fireplace. Pool was clean, even after the storm blew through. Great breakfast choices. Friendly staff. Love the indoor plants. Never heard anyone else or even the storm. Walkability: Easy walk to the lighthouse and beach
Room is big and location is next to the beach. Price is ok. Continental Breakfast is ok.
Friendly staff, big rooms, hot hot tub, good breakfast. Short walk to coast. Good parking.
It was a nice quiet place, the breakfast was good too.
The room looked nice, water pressure was good. I liked the fireplace addition, although we did not use it. The bed was awful. I don t normally judge too harshly on the look of the room but the bed is definitely something that needs to be top notch. With being out exploring all day, you like to be able to sleep well and get rested to be ready for the rest of your trip. I didn t sleep well at all, the bed was squeaky and old. It wasn t comfortable at all. The pillows were nice and comfortable. I liked the cleanliness of the room until the last day I noticed someone else s nasty socks under the bed while I was packing. That s pretty gross. Means that nobody looked under the bed to clean. The continental breakfast was not the best. They could have more options than just bread. There were hard boiled eggs, cereal, bananas, milk, orange juice and croissants. The jacuzzi was as nice. I loved sitting out in it. The walls are super thin and I could hear the people above us all night stomping around. If you re a light sleeper I would ask for the top floor, I did that when I booked but did not get a top floor. Overall it was an alright stay. I wouldn t book here again though.
We had a great experience at this hotel. Great service, breakfast was definitely nice. Clean, cozy and friendly place.
Great place to stay, clean up to date. nice breakfast and great location.
Very, very friendly staff who even sent my forgotten jacket from the pool area to the next hotel on the USA trip. Highly recommended.
Quite a decent place, but nothing to write home about. Very friendly Arabic speaking receptionist, help us to get tea (chai) late at night. The breakfast is a nominal one -- if you have time, its better to skip it and eat elsewhere. But as a place to stay for a night and keep going -- Monarch Resort is good enough, nothing to complain about.
Close to beach!!!
Rooms: Clean Safety: Quiet and safe Rooms : 5/5 |
It s magical here. Will definitely will stay there again.
Ive been staying at the monarch when visiting the area over the past few years. This has a great location for peaceful evenings and morning walks. Relatively all around a good place to stay. However this time Ive decided that I will be looking for another place to stay as the rooms need updating.
Very nice location in Pacific Grove. Large rooms, but theyre showing their age. The mosquito screen door in our room was broken and wouldnt close. The whirlpool was unfortunately not clean and uninviting. Its good that all pools are heated. The tiny breakfast room (a converted room) with only three tables was shocking for us. Youre supposed to take your breakfast to your room on a tray!!??! But the room wasnt cleaned until after three days. Impossible in this price category! Rooms: Big but you could do more with it.
The rooms were a little dated and run down, but clean enough. The service was fine and the location was great!
Beautiful resort. 2 minutes drive from ocean.. Breakfast, pool, sauna, and spa. Highly recommended..
Pacific Grove is lovely and this place was close to the beach and downtown
Rooms were outdated, and the pullout couch bed was crusty/crumby. We had a deluxe room so the full kitchen and full size refrigerator was nice. Family enjoyed the pool/sauna.
Very cute hotel, great breakfast, cute pool and fun jacuzzi. Perfect for those visiting Monterey
My company stayed at Monarch Resort for during Pebble Beach Car Week. Dianne communication and customer service is above and beyond. I would give her 6 stars for service if I could. Monarch Resort offers lots of character, great location with views of the water, and surrounded by nature and animals. The rooms are spacious and clean. I would stay here again for next year Pebble Beach.
No room cleaning if you stay more than one night. The rooms are dated, the bed was not comfortable. If we rent for one night then the room must be cleaned when we leave. We stayed for three nights and we are basically penalized for not changing hotels. We have to make up the beds, take out the trash, wash our coffee cups and walk to the front desk if we want fresh towels. Couldnt the hotel at lease bring some towels to the room and replenish the coffee supplies? The hotel is old and I would think that they would try to make up for the deficiencies with great service. They need to improve.
Rooms: Rooms were big and had fireplace. We just stayed 1 night and would stay at this place again! Rooms
We spent one night here. As far as we could tell there was no A/C, so we opened the sliding glass door to let the breeze in. We didnt feel safe leaving it open through the night because the balconies are connected & easily accessible by jumping across. The room was clean & comfortable. The hallway was open with skylights & growing plants. Continental breakfast was good-fresh bagels & muffins, yogurt, fresh fruit. We would stay here again. They wont let you check in early.
Great place to stay in pacific grove
Quiet and a driving distance from cannery row. Like others say, decor and beds are outdated but everything was very clean. If youre looking for just a place to sleep and not break the bank, this is the ticket
Rooms: Complete and with fireplace. Heated swimming pool and hydromassage
Walkability: Walking distance from the ocean. Rooms
Lovely motel in a great location. Rooms are clean but could use some updating. You can tell renovations have been done but not to high quality. Otherwise it was a wonderful place to stay. Safe and quiet. My only complaint was they have a fireplace in the room and they supply a packaged log that you can burn. Our neighbors did just that and some of the odor wafted down into our room.
Very decent hotel in a beautiful area
Clean,Courteous Staff...
Always good value.
The room was nice and big. The staff was nice. I enjoy staying here.
Fantastic stay during the last week of December. Close to 17 Mile Drive entrance , the Butterfly Sanctuary and the beaches are so close too. I used both the Hot Tub and the heated Pool , actually right as it started a light rain shower. I loved them both. We would return here in a heartbeat. Love the place.
Room smelled like a campfire most likely from previous guest not opening the flue in the fireplace. Friendly staff, decent breakfast selection. Great price for Pacific Grove! Parking lot is a little awkward. Rooms: Large room. Nice balcony but no chairs on it!
Quiet location, pool and hot tub area clean. Facility is dated, doors dont latch easily, dirty in some areas, loud heater. But price is okay.
Friendly, comfortable. Great walling area.
Great staff! Loved the room with fireplace and had a fire every night!
It was really wonderful, beautiful place
Only a four because I wish the hot tub could hold more than 6. But super friendly staff, easy walk to the asilomar path, and close drive to fabulous restaurants and activities.
We enjoyed our stay. Quiet area, great location a few minutes walk to the ocean. Spacious room with bath tub, fire place and balcony. Will come again.
Our visit here was very disappointing.. The rooms were very dated and were not cleaned very thoroughly: everything was very dusty and a lot cobwebs and hairs everywhere. Also the furniture and sanitary was falling apart and malfunctioning. The shower is terrible: the spray was so little that it took me half an hour to get the conditioner out of my hair (admitted that I do have very long hair) The building is very noisy: we could hear everything (but really EVERYTHING) from our upstairs neighbours who unfortunately got out of bed 3 times per night to go to the toilet. The stomping and flushing noises literally kept us up. The rooms were not cleaned daily: which was explained as due to the water shortage in CA. But honestly they could at least just vacuum, dust, re-fill your coffee etc. No need to use water for those tasks, right? Now you are paying for hotel facilities while you can actually better compare to a B&B service. On the day the room was cleaned, it was not even cleaned very well and nothing was re-filled. The luxury breakfast is also a bit over-advertised as it is really only a table with pre-packed goods and almost only sweet items. I guess if you like your egg s to be blue (hard boiled), it s fine.. The only positive we found to be the working fireplace in the room and the kind staff at the front desk. So definitely not worth the money unfortunately and we will not come back here.
Great location and very nice reception staff, but the hotel is very outdated.
Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. Walking distance from multiple locations makes it an ideal hotel to stay at. The breakfast was atisfying, the hot tub was hat and the pool was the perfect temperature. Already planning our next stay when the butterflies return.
Comfortable and enjoyed hot tub after walking all day.
This hotel is located not too far from the beach and downtown area of Pacific Grove. A bit dated and in need of upgraded interior decorating. Has an old musty odor most likely because of carpets and draperies. Bedding was ok and mattress firm. Fireplaces come with one free duraflame log. Bathrooms do have wall hanging hairdryers and coffee maker in bathrooms. There are some covered parking spaces available. ADA accessible. Elevator and self serve bell hop carts available as well. Heated pool and Jacuzzi open until 9pm. A basic breakfast is available every morning until 10 am. Located in a small room that seats about 10. Coffee was sub par Folgers and breakfast food consists of bananas, oranges, cold hard boiled eggs Costco muffins and Bagels, oatmeal and single serve yogurts. The fireplace fire pit area is not in use, but would be nice if they had an option to light in the evenings for guests. My review is dated May 2022. Because of low staffing rooms are cleaned every other day. This place is about a 3.5 star out of 5 because of the shape it is in. The location is good!
Weeknight stay, rates lower. LOVED our stay. Cclean cozy room with fireplace with a log. New real coffee pot in room. Microwave and big fridge. Warm crystal clear pool! Delightful hot tub! Hot hot water in the shower. Really nice free breakfast (yogurt, fruit, muffins, OJ, bagels). Loved walking to the cemetery, tidepools, lighthouse. So quiet. Can t wait to come back!!!
Only one thing Id change is the bed, it was low, kind of low to the floor and not very comfy..needed updating
All in all, the hotel is okay. The rooms were quite dark and not really up to date, but rather had a seventies charm and a bit of dust. The prices are outrageously high, and the breakfast is really meager even by American standards, especially the room where its served. Its tiny, but youre probably better off having breakfast in your room. Its a lovely little garden, and the receptionist was very friendly.
I dont remember the last time I stayed in a room with beds so uncomfortable. The location is great, the beds are spring mattresses.
It needs some maintenance in #101 on screen door & flooring by dresser. Also we paid for a Queen & that was a full size bed. Other than that was very quiet & very polite people.
Rooms were nice and clean but outdated, beds were wore out. Pillows were flat. Everytime you moved or rolled over the beds would rock like you were on a small boat on the ocean. Beds really sucked, plus sometime during the night they turned the power off so you were in total darkness and no coffee or hair dryer for the wife. Finally came back on around 9 am.
We booked at a latest date this hotel. Our bed for 2 adults was too old (too soft in the middle...). Breakfast served with poor quality in a room at first floor ! Never seen that before. Choose a rate without breakfast. Pool and spa were open, not the case everywhere so good point.
I just loved the location of it and how fast and friendly the check in was. Will definitely be going back
Was very disappointed with service. The room look like they havent been updated since 1970s still waiting on my shower chair. My rooms carpet was damp.Breakfast was served in an empty room. Thought I had walked in to someone elses room. The best part was to pool, jacuzzi. But was definitely not worth 200 +$$ Rooms: Need to be updated . Mattresses was so old and soft
Was very nice
Worst customer service ever!! I waited over 2 hours to be checked in because no one was there. I even contacted the hotel to let them know I was going to be there as a late check in but they didnt leave a key for me and I waited for Dianne, to meet me to check in. To top it off, there was a horrible mildew smell in my room, black mold at the corner of the room by shower, saw some baby roaches in kitchen. In the kitchen area there was a loud vibrating sound that I was told would be fixed but wasnt. I booked and paid my 1st night through a 3rd party agent and stayed 2 extra days & they billed 3 days instead of 2. So I paid for a total of 4 days- billed a extra day I didnt stay. They didnt have the room available I had paid and reserved and billed me for the more expensive one. Then I asked for 30 min late checkout and was told only 10 minutes. I do not recommend this hotel!
Been staying here for years and always enjoyed it, but now we wont be back. Our rooms stunk, no daily servicing of our rooms, had to go ask for towels, coffee and fire logs every day. The hot tub wasnt working again and apparently it wont be for quite awhile. Very disappointed.
Old, no cleaning, toilet cistern not working. No air conditioning. bad breakfast. Location is fine. You can hardly mess that up.
Rooms are old, you can hear everyone around, service is friendly, $300 a night is not matching the expectation
What a wonderful experience, the rooms r so comfortable, the breakfast is always out on time with different assortments, the fire place is perfect and the front desk staff Belinda and Josephine are amazing and realy made everything comfortable and friendly assistance.
Cute hotel, just fine
If you dont want reception stay here. They do have a good breakfast. Hard boiled eggs, muffin and bagel. Patio door would not open was kinda strange. Hotel needs a total update. You could hear toilets running all night. And worst matresses
We stayed from Thursday thru Sunday. Most of the staff was helpful and curtious. Belinda was the best. She helped us figure out what we were going to do for the day. Whale watching was high on the list so we did that. We returned and she engaged with us about the trip. She is by far the most personable staff member there. Id return just to visit with her again. The rooms were comfy and breakfast was good. Hope to stay again soon.
Rooms: Rooms are clean and the staff is friendly Nearby activities: Asilomar Beach Point Pinos Lighthouse Rooms : 4/5 |
Beautiful hotel in an even more beautiful setting... Breakfast was included... unfortunately, it was very basic with paper plates and cups.
Rooms in need of being updated, dates the hotel.
Beautifully located in the Pacific Grove peninsula, within walking distance to the lighthouse, but the rooms are dated
I booked this place for my mother, who was coming to visit from Mexico after New Years. Reading the reviews ahead of time, it had decent ratings with several comments of it needing updating, so my expectations were pretty low, but the price was perfect at $81/night. I called ahead to make sure there was a refrigerator in the rooms, and the jacuzzi worked and asked about the fireplaces. All were working and available. When we checked her in, the staff was amazing, helpful, very polite, and took the time to get to know us. During her 4-night stay, each of the resorts receptionists treated her just the same. The jacuzzi was great during the stormy weather we had, and you get 1 free slow burning Duralog per night for the fireplace. The layout of the hotel is really neat, with all rooms facing out to the streets, with the exception of the couple that overlook the pool. The interior is set up in an atrium, open-air style, which gives it a really nice feel. I wouldnt consider this hotel outdated by any means. I also didnt really see anything that needed updating. The price is perfect for what you get, and then some! If they charged way more, then possibly theyd need some new chairs or something, but the stay came complete with all necessary amenities (fridge, coffee pot, microwave) and included an amazing breakfast area with muffins, bananas, and even REAL hardboiled eggs. The resort is also located within walking distance of the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, the ocean by Asilimar or Lovers Point, some golfing, and a short 15 minute walk to downtown Pacific Grove where there are restaurants, bars, stores. If youve made it to the end of this review, definitely give this place a chance, you wont be disappointed! I booked on Travelocity, but give them a call and see if they can beat the rates! Rooms: The rooms are large and the layout was nice. I liked that there were two sinks, one inside the bathroom with a door and one outside with a vanity. Perfect for couples where each can get ready. Every room appears to have a balcony view as well. We had a fireplace, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot. Nearby activities: Tons to do in Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach. Youre at the top of 17-mile drive so its the perfect place to start that trip. Youre down the block from the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. A short 15-minute walk to Pacific Grove and restaurants. Safety: Theres cameras located throught the hotel, key card access only doors, that were all working during our stay, and a well lit parking area. Food and drinks: Their Continental Breakfast was much larger than other hotel stays. It was a couple tables worth of food to choose from. Noteworthy details: The staff is amazing. The location is great. The hotel was cozy and VERY quiet. The pool and jacuzzi were great. And the free breakfast was awesome.
Great service, clean and very comfortable room with fireplace ready for you to start after cold day. Good breakfast and very attentive staff. Yet you will see the Monarchs right there! Thank you!
Flat screen TV was small and not HD. Cost was reasonable. Great location.
Do not try to stay here. We had a reservation but they had no power when we arrived and now I am disputing the charge on my credit card when they are the ones that canceled. Ridiculous!
Cute place, close to the beach, very affordable.
Very comfortable. Very well kept. Loved the comfy bed, and fireplace. Also, go across the street to Lucys.
This was a joyful stay. The indoor gardens, and bronze figures reminded me of the Hilton in Orlando. Only for half the price. We visit the Monterey area often, and have tried every level of accommodation in the area. The Monarch Resort will definitely be seeing more of us in the future.
month
Great location. We stay in Pacific Grove every year for our anniversary. Our normal hotel was booked up for the weekend so we were able to get a room at Monarch Resort. Heated pool, sauna and jacuzzi were closed. But youre within walking distance of the beach. Great shops and food within walking distance. This is definitely on our list of go to spots to stay when were in town.
Unfriendly staff
This was our 4th stay at Monarch. Although due to Covid there was no swimming in the pool and some other restrictions our stay was still good.
Very nice & Welcoming
Again, hung up on I believe by front desk person because Im extremely busy and our phomes are being worked on...well which one is it?
This inn has a very good value for the price. The rooms are nice, with space, coffee machine, fireplace, balcony and the inn has a heted outdoor pool. It includes a continental breakfast which is nothing to write home about but it does the trick (muffin, beagle, juice, coffee and a piece of fruit). Location is nice, quiet area close to the shore. Staff was not super friendly but they were prifessional. Overall we had a good stay.
Dated but nice for the price
Good location and price!
Super loud 1st level rooms you can hear everything upstairs including people walking, flushing the toilet etc. Extremely hard uncomfortable bed. Major deferred maintenance and strange features straight out of the early 90s. Terribly slow wifi and no cell service near hotel so forced to use terrible wifi. Would never come here again.
I stayed here on a work trip. Overall this is a pretty nice property. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I very much enjoyed the fireplace in the room all three nights. The room was clean and comfortable with a very nice fireplace, free log, fridge and microwave. The property is a little dated. I noticed a few small maintenance issues. The screen door was off the track and the slider dragged a bit when opening and closing the door. The fan in the bathroom was quite loud- a high pitch whine. And the ceiling fan housing is loose and rattles if turned on. I suspect these were deferred maintenance issues during the pandemic. Ill assume theyll be addressed soon. The pool area is quite nice. I didnt swim but sat down in the patio area for an hour or so. The pool is heated and clean. The property was very quiet and is a short walk from the Pacific Grove golf course. The area is quiet enough that I left the slider open all night. No noise at all until the birds woke up before sunrise. I had the continental breakfast on one of the three mornings. It wasnt much. I would have skipped it and found a diner if Id had time. Ill certainly stay her again. I hope the property will catch up with the maintenance issues soon.
This quaint little hotel is really great, the staff are super friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. They give you a fire log everyday if your room has a fireplace. The place is a bit older and showing its age in some places, but the rooms are nice, and the indoor trees are really cool. I would definitely stay here again.
Good enough. No thrills
Wonderful room. Beautiful place. Pacific Grove makes me happy and this hotel had everything we wanted!
Surprisingly clean for an older hotel. Basically nice but old. No real complaints.
Great location
Nice location, acceptable rooms.
Nice
Very clean roomy accomodations. Deluxe continental breakfast and friendly, efficient staff.
Really enjoyed our stay! Hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood about half a mile from the coastline and one mile from most area restaurants/shops (if you love to walk, it s a beautiful 2 miles to the Monterey Bay Aquarium/Cannery Row). PG was not as crowded as Carmel or Monterey. Room (2 double beds, no fireplace) was very spacious, with a microwave and small fridge. Basic toiletries (FYI, no lotion, and BYO conditioner if, like me, you have unruly hair; those 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner combos don t work for me!). Plenty of free self-parking. Nice breakfast offerings (eggs/yogurt/fruit/bagels/muffins/oatmeal/juice/coffee). Breakfast room is small, so we just took everything back to our room. Balcony could have used a power wash, and the screen door was not attached (nbd, hubby fixed it). Front desk staff was friendly and extremely helpful (shout out to Josephine for going above and beyond!). Its a little expensive, but thats expected for the area. Would definitely stay again if in the vicinity!
Management
Great place to stay while visiting Monterey Bay. Location is perfect to walk till Ocean View Road. Continental breakfast between 7.30 to 10 am is included, so thats a plus point. Loved the variety they offer. Room service is every other day since Covid. Prepare accordingly. Parking is enough and free. Nice landscaping. Furniture, light arrangements and bathroom fittings is old school but functioning well. That should be good enough for a few days when you are anyway going to be out all day! Thankfully the mattresses were somewhat firm which, I feel, is rare in most hotels. I could sleep well without back pain. Based on other reviews it seemed that first floor rooms suffer noise issues from upper floor so we called in advance and booked a second floor room. You could try that if its available. My reason for giving a 4 star is the tap water in the room. It wasnt clear and seemed to contain a lot of minerals in it. Tasted odd and I wasnt comfortable drinking it.
Nice, big and clean room. We really enjoyed it.
Beautiful flora inside and out.
Loved it
Dated hotel with a small warm pool and a hot tub and one person sauna. Staff lukewarm, but ok. Parking underneath was nice. Room was clean, old style with fridge that ran all night ....my fault should have unplugged it
Above average showers :D breakfast could be a bit better. Its hard to find (its a regular hotel room remodeled) but has a larger range of donuts to choose from (no cereals). Hotel room itself is nice. Parking is plenty available. Wifi is OK
We had an amazing and beautiful stay, thanks for offering the comfort and amenities we are all use to! I even forgot my toothbrush and you had an extra for me!
Made the place we stayed in the night before look terrible.
You know what you are going to get
It was delightful! Friendly staff clean rooms. The breakfast could be improved, a little milk a real cream for the coffee is a must.
Rooms were large, clean and with a charming fireplace. Staff is very friendly.
Very accommodating staff. Clean common areas, including outdoor pool & hot tub. Room was not fancy but very comfortable and decent size. Some rooms also have small balconies/patio area withs sliding glass door. Indoor gardens were a nice touch. Very different open area design.
VERY PRETTY!!!
Very 70s hotel. Beautiful artwork and garden in hallways. Hot tub and pool were nice. Rooms were kind of cold but each room had an open fire with a duralog and matches provided.
Nice, quiet and clean. Nonsmoking throughout. A perfect place for a four-day getaway from a busy life. A short walk to the butterflies. Continental breakfast is simple. This was our third visit.
Within walking distance of the beach and shopping and restaurant area of Pacific Grove. Lovely staff, too
Great time here! Such nice employees and a great pool clean rooms and htotub with cute breakfast
Over rated
romantic setting great property the rooms or large suggestive helpful good parking safe property tax rate in Pacific Grove and literally one of them best sauna heated pool complimentary breakfast nice crowns
No air conditioning, it was very stuffy, the weather was on warmer side in the 80s, old hotel, beds were supposed to be queen size, however, they were like childrens bed, Im only 52 and my feet were on the edge, very uncomfortable and pillows stiff. For breakfast you had to fill out a form and they had it bagged for you I assume due to covid. Our reservations were for 4 but there were only 3 towels. The room was clean though.
Came down to Pacific Grove for a weekend with my friends there were loud noises all throughout the first night that the staff never addressed nor apologized for. Some of the employees are rude. We forgot our room key on the second day and needed to get into the room, the woman behind the front desk rolled her eyes and gave us attitude. Something unnecessary. For the room price this is a place to go, but be aware of the fact you pay for what you get. The rooms were dated something I was aware ahead of time but next time I d rather pay a little extra and stay at the Lighthouse Lodge down the street had no issues there.
Helpful staff
Very nice place to get away, employees were kind and very helpful. Our room was cleaned, and had a great view. When we first arrived we were greeted by 4 deer great way to start my trip.
Pool was great .service great
King suite is really spacious. Perfect for our family. Great location. 8 min. Walk to beach.
This is a great place for R & R. Quiet location. Friendly, welcoming, and accommodating staff. Rooms are well appointed. My room even has a private patio for sitting outside. I am glad that I discovered this place.
Came across this place while looking for a decently priced stay at Monterey, we reluctant because we wanted something close to the beach. When we arrived all of doubts disappeared. It is not near the beach but still was in a pretty good looking and active neighborhood, there people jogging and walking their dogs. It right across from a little restaurant. And the best thing for us was the service, we first got had a room facing the parking lot a few minutes in we decided to ask for something with a nicer view. The ladies up front accommodated our same day request without hesitation and no additional charge! We ended up having a room in the second floor with a pool view. That said the first floor I found beautiful too! They have SO MANY indoor plants!!! I love plants! Both rooms we saw on the first and second floor had a fireplace, it s a nice touch. Breakfast was included, you get to choose what you want: bagel, cream cheese, jelly, muffin (chocolate, pumpkin, etc.), banana (and a few other fruits, maybe an apple?), yogurt (vanilla, peach, etc.), hard boiled eggs, and coffee. You get to choose what you wants and how many. It s a basic breakfast but considering the food prices out there it much appreciated. The next morning the staff was very sweet to offer places to explore. Based off of our interactions with the staff there we would come back here if in the area again.
BEVerlyy is a consiencer her willing to ensure ur stay is good.shows in her guest service skills
Quiet, pleasant, great location, pool closed and spa, thumbs down on that. Breakfast was cool idea just think the entire idea of amenities being closed should reflect the price which it doesnt, cable TV, but picture wasnt clear, I value my privacy, this place asked so many questions about who was in my party. I answered questionson on the phone I ordered 2 rooms, I just think that if you got to ask, ask once, second its none of your business about my family, because of the nosey rosey cashier and the amenities it loses a star, should be two star loss but, the peace and quiet, and the food across the street make it just enough for 4 stars.
beautiful property the room was nice staff was great I have used this resort for my family and friends multiple times its one block from my home so very convenient always great and pricing is always cheaper than most will continue to use them for years to come
The room was dark and generic. I heard closet doors slam from the room next-door. The breakfast room was tiny and crowded. I can t believe it was AAA diamond rated. For me it was like up like a Motel 6.
First of all, the room was clean. The bathroom was clean. So that is why i have it 2 stars. The sliding door to the balcony did not lock. We didnt feel comfortable leaving our belongings since we were on the 1st floor. Also, our room door had a big gap on the bottom. We could hear anyone checking in, leaving and/or coming in to the building. I kept waking up due to all the noise from other guest and reception.
Clean modern inn. Lovely location.
Someday, late 70s/early 80s architecture and design will be as cherished as mid-century modern. When that day comes, the Monarch Resort will be viewed as a classic. Beautifully maintained, the atrium hallways are great. Everything else is quite nice for a building of this age. Its a great middle-of-the-road option. Price was decent (not great) location is good (but not quite close enough to the ocean or town center) free breakfast was fine (Ive had better and worse) rooms are clean and well-maintained (but youll never mistake them for brand-new).
Clean and quiet
Clean, great location, but has not been lovingly maintained for awhile. Owners need to invest in keeping all electrical and other systems in good working order.
Excellent
The front desk was great
Clean
Pleasent stay
Very old carpet and furniture accompanied by old carpet smell. Very low quality beds and covers a lot like cardboard . Office staff was nice enough. Great location but thats the only factor worth the cost. Otherwise, it served its purpose.
