To preface this, I have only written one other business review. I also usually do all of the work on my car myself, and the only reason I take my car to shops is for what I am writing this review about. I took my car into this business a few weeks ago, on November 8th, for a wheel and tire balance on some new wheels and tires that were put on the day before. All I needed was some wheel weights and a balance, a straightforward thing. My first issue occurred when it took four, almost five hours for my wheels to be balanced, even though I had an appointment. I usually never call automotive shops because I understand they don't want someone breathing down their neck, but after four hours of waiting on a job that should've taken an hour maximum, I started to get worried and called. My second issue occurred when I took my wheels and tires off to do some suspension work on my car on December 3rd (today). I was gone for the holiday, and I rent, so I do not have much space to work on my car, so it sat. My lug nuts were torqued down to 108 ft/lbs. This was measured with a properly serviced electronic torque wrench (and I also know what 80 vs almost 110 ft/lbs feels like). My vehicle specs call for 80 ft/lbs, so I could've easily stripped a wheel stud out (I'm shocked they didn't by torquing it down that much)! I also had a few cross threads on some of my wheel bolts, probably from this. My third issue occurred when I took my wheels off. These goons took my damn hub-centric rings for aftermarket wheels so that they fit flush on the hub and don't wobble around. Here I was worried that I bought messed up wheels because the ride was still bumpy after they installed balancers. So after taking almost five hours to balance some damn wheels, they: torqued my lug nuts down way out of factory spec (this spec would be for most trucks), cross-threaded some of my wheel bolts, AND STOLE MY DAMN HUB-CENTRIC RINGS. These rings were not expensive, but it is the principle to avoid taking something that is there for an obvious reason. A lube tech knows what these rings are and what purpose they serve! Please go down the road to Sullivan's or any of the other wheel and tire places to get any wheel and tire work done to your car. The only reason I did not is that they were booked out, and I needed these wheels balanced because the vibration was unbearable.
I called in to get a specific set of tires ordered and I was treated inappropriately by Tony. He seemed like a nice guy at first, but he was very forgetful when it came to my order. On our first phone call he was quick to charge me for my order so that we could enter our contract. A week later he had me come in for the tire replacement, however, he forgot who I was and that he scheduled for me to come in. I left frustrated but assumed he would get the tires in and call me back to re-schedule. After another week without an update, I contacted him about the status of my order. He wanted me to call him back two hours later to get the update, but I asked him to call me as soon as he found out the status of my tires. He did not. When I called back, he immediately wanted to schedule an appointment for me later this week without giving me an update on the tires. I had to forcefully ask him where my tires are, and his response was " I don't know but I might get them by tomorrow night." This was the final straw for me, and I asked for a full refund. I would have been fine waiting if he kept me informed about my order, but he never called (not even once) to inform me of delays or needing to reschedule appointments. I find this to be very unprofessional. This chronic lack of professionalism over the course of three weeks is why I cancelled my order. If updates are allowed, I will provide a review associated with the payment cancellation, otherwise I will create another post associated with his handling of dissatisfied customers.
Great experience! We had a nail in our tire after a road trip into Monterey. The guys at Peninsula took us right away for a patch, we were in and out in 15 minutes! Very reasonably priced, too! Definitely recommend!
I’ve been a thoroughly satisfied customer for 30 years – since the start of their business in Monterey. Tony and his employees are always very courteous and attempt to our family’s needs Related to tires, brakes, and shocks. Today I just found out that Tony and his employees are great supporters of the Monarch project next to his business— Providing parking, water and assistance in maintaining the project.
Great service! Stopped by because I needed some WD-40 for my bike and they were more than willing to help out 👍🏾 10/10 will recommend, thanks again!
