Monterey Fireplace Inn in Monterey

We had booked a room here, but when we arrived it was absolutely filthy. The bedding was stained, full of holes and other peoples hair. The floor was dirty. The exposed mattress was yellow and crusted with dirt. We refused to stay. The pictures dont even show how bad it was.

We stayed here for five days. It s centrally located, with many tourist sites just a short drive away. The staff are very friendly, and the room was clean and quiet. Highly recommend!!!

The Beds are infested with Bed Bugs, Ringworm and Jockich enjoy

We stayed for two days, but the cleaner threw away everything we left in the room the next morning. We asked for compensation many times, but there is still no response. From the boss to the employees, they do nothing. The room was also dirty, the towels were black, and there were residual stains on the sheets. By the way, there are two other motels nearby that are also run by them, and the reviews are worse than this one. In short, if you come to Monterey to play, just avoid these low-rated ones. Dont try to be cheap.

Exactly what we needed. Nice rooms. Although, they need to mop the floors more. My wife walked bare foot for 2 mins and her feet were black, so we wore sandles the rest of the stay. Outside of that, it was great. Staff was nice and property was clean and close everything.

I want to make this accommodation public because I was scammed and never got my money back. I booked a night through a platform where the price was 86 USD per night. I had to enter my credit card to reserve it. When I arrived, they told me they tried to contact me but couldnt (completely false, because I never received a WhatsApp or email). And that the reservation had been canceled. I never received anything. Then the guy at reception told me I couldnt stay there because I had canceled it and that if I wanted to stay, I had to pay 200 USD. I declined because it seemed like a lot and I had booked for less. So I had to go to another hotel because I wasnt going to pay that amount. When I returned to my country, I only just saw that they had charged me for a stay I didnt stay at. I sent emails and tried to contact them, but I never got a response.

We booked a room here at a great price for September 22, 2024. Our booking platform has now informed us that the booking has been canceled because the hotel no longer exists. Now we would be able to book again at four times the price. This is, quite simply, very poor business practice.

A small motel very convenient. Not far from Monterey and Carmel, not expensive, with fridge and microwave. It was the second time I went here, and always good.

Great little quiet place close to everything. Management is very accommodating and friendly. Rooms all have new furniture, flooring and bathroom remodels. Id recommend it to anyone.

We booked a room at this motel through the Agoda platform. We paid in advance and received a reservation confirmation. That same evening, around 7:30 p.m., we called to check the check-in time, and the receptionist told us they didnt have our reservation and to not come to their motel because all their rooms were full. He made me spell out our first and last names, as well as the reservation number. To no avail, as the reservation wasnt in their system. The receptionist told us we shouldnt have booked with a third party. However, it was the motel that had put its name on third parties. Finally, the receptionist offered us a room at a motel in a different location than what we had planned because there were no more vacancies nearby. The next day, we made arrangements with the third party Agoda, and they informed us that they had to confirm with the hotel that we hadnt gone. The third-party Agoda told us that the motel was unaware that we had an online reservation with them. (Even though we had clearly informed them the day before, and the receptionist had informed us about the refund procedures with the third-party Agoda.) I do not recommend this establishment due to the unpleasant experience we had with them.

Great place to stay for the price! Comfy beds, clean property and cute. Just a couple of inconveniences the tub stopper did not work and the shower came on with the tub faces so I did end up getting wet while turning the tub on! But not a big deal. My husband did want an extra boil low-we only got three instead of four. But for the price and the good service and cleanliness, these are all thing that can be lived with! Would definitely recommend staying here if you re looking for something in Monterey that won t break the bank but will still feel clean and safe.

Dont be put off by old reviews and photos. This place has been renovated and is currently being renovated. Friendly manager. A perfect stay. Restaurants and a laundromat are nearby.

Booked a 2 night stay here for a spontaneous solo trip to Monterey/Carmel, as it was one of the lowest priced stays in the area. Simple, recently renovated rooms. Bathrooms looked brand new. My room had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Nice and quiet at night and felt like a secure area. Spacious parking lot. 7 Eleven across the street and 2 gas stations nearby. 10 minute drive to fishermans wharf. Would stay again given the opportunity. Rooms: Simple rooms. Clean quiet place to shower and sleep.

The room is clean and tidy. Check-in was completely hassle-free, and we were even able to check in ahead of schedule. Everything you need is there (a towel rack and a safe would have been great, too).

This hotel should not be trusted. They just cancelled our reservation with no reason and now we have to try and find somewhere else to stay! Not cool.!

Great little motel with ample parking. The room was modern with hardwood floors, a TV, and a comfortable bed. Perfect for a road trip.

Overall its clean and its motel-like. On the other hand, the pillows are so huge that you will spend the night with your neck at 45 degrees.

This little place was just what we needed. The manager/owner is top notch on service. The place was super clean and recently updated. They have everything you need (microwave and fridge!). Bed was just okay. Location is a bit out of the way and you need to drive places. If folks outside are noisy you can hear them, but we didn t have much trouble with noise. Overall I would recommend, especially for the price.

Save yourself! If I could give zero stars I would! The staff is so rude and cannot speak professionally or helpfully. I accidentally booked a room on the wrong night and had meant to add it to an existing booking in a month for a family member that was going to join us. They refused to help and changed us anyway. They were also rude about it. I d suggest saving yourself the trouble. I regret ever booking with them.

The room is pretty good, comfortable and the area is pretty good to go other places without a car but the service is bad, you can barely understand them and in my case I asked for two nights multiple times and he said yes but I got a call the next day saying that I had to check out already. It was an uncomfortable situation and all the employee said was to go check out. And when we got out he started offering us another night for the same price.

I just got here but wow I already want to leave a review. The staff is so friendly, they are nothing but smiles and are so welcoming. Now the room for the price I must say, WOW! It is so clean, and seems like the building got a new paint job, everything looks modern and great for the price, 11/10 would recommend anyone to stay here! Ive paid more for dirtier, smaller rooms with no refrigerators and in worse locations! What a gem!

Shows that the room i booked had a fireplace but it doesnt. Also the room has a weird hallway that leads to nowhere.

Very kind staff. The concierge was incredibly nice and accommodating. The rooms were clean. The shape of the rooms were strange but had enough space for both me and my companion. There is a $100 deposit so dont forget to bring cash or just plan for the charge.

It s a great place and probably underrated. The rooms were newly renovated and have welcoming walls unlike the pale white that you usually see. The location is pretty good within walking distance of almost everything. A staff that kept the property well maintained and cleaned. With the price the way it is what more can you ask for? Would recommend this place for anyone.

Judging by the previous reviews on this hotel it has clearly been renovated since and probably new owners. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of this hotel inside and out but most notably for the price point. I m travelling California for 2 weeks so have been using quite a few low price hotels. I had stayed at 2 other hotels the previous nights for the same sort of price (£60-70) that were so bad I slept fully clothed. At Monterey Fireplace the bedding didn t just smell clean, it smelled good. 3 full size proper pillows. Towels were all immaculate and folded in a fancy way, with care (unfortunately I didn t take a photo). I didn t check the fridge or microwave but whole room looked clean. I have to admit, the layout seems a bit odd when you walk in as to the rear right there s a small corridor to nothing but, in this area was an ironing board and iron, plus either a bench or hatstand, I can t recall. I made good use of the built in air con unit to warm up the room. A short walk from plenty of food and shops, I walked to breakfast at Denny s and picked up some bits from Dollar Tree.

To start off, a lot of stuff was dirty in the room (pillows, towels, etc), the appliances were so loud, no air conditioner just a small fan, the tv had almost no channels, but to top it off, we were yelled at and chased out of there during checkout. Ive never had anyone do that before! As we were taking our stuff out of the room, the man was literally waiting in the parking lot next to our car yelling at us to get out and/or to pay another night! It was only 1 minute past and thats because our alarm didnt go off early. But we had already turned in the key and were just moving our suitcases out. Every single place Ive ever stayed at has never cared about that and has understood. Not this place. I cried in the car. Worst experience ever! Worst customer service! Will never be back.

This place lacks air conditioning but Im going to say that right off the bat but youre in Monterey the hottest it ever guess I got one is about 85 degrees in Monterey and all you people coming from the valley if you want a quaint little stay the hotel and they have about 12 rooms the man and wife that run the place are fantastic the hotel housekeeping staff Gina is an amazing housekeeper and goes out of her way to make sure your stay as pleasant its Charming thats its Charming they put little details and Noble garden and it has become a Mainstay of places for me to stay and theyre not grouchy never summer time so this is a great place to stay if you on a budget I highly recommend Im not too picky if youre really picky you might find fault with this hotel but I thought it was Charming

I enjoyed my stay here. Found it clean, quiet and the owner very nice. It could use some renovations, but its an older hotel and an economical choice. After all youre not here to sit in the room. Oh and the little fireplaces do work...

No fancy frills, comfortable and affordable. Go directly through the office for room bookings/reservations and youll get a better deal. Beds are a bit on the hard side though, but it has refrigerator and microwave so thats a plus.

Decor is a little bric-a-brac but in the end it provides what any inn is supposed to, plus a bit more.

Horrible, smelly moldy rooms with hair everywhere. Room door gaps so big you can get a small child under the door. Avoid. I had prepaid for 2 nights. Went in and 10 min later left and anyone that cares abojut their family would too

I love staying here. I wont stay any place else. You get a nice size room with a microwave and refrigerator and that is always important to me. The price is great too. The most important thing of all the managers him and his wife are great people literally. They are friendly and lovely people and always always there for whatever u need.The housekeeper she does a great job and is a super nice lady. Thank for always making my stay great.

Well, you know what? I really wish I had taken pictures of this place. This is THE ONLY HOTEL I HAVE BEEN TO AND CHECKED OUT OF BECAUSE THE ROOM WAS DIRTY AND NOT TAKEN CARE OF PROPERLY...LOOKS ARE DECEIVING...THIS PLACE LOOKS NICE..TRUST ME ..IT IS NOT...there was a whole bunch of stuff that was wrong with the wrong. NOT ONLY THAT...WHEN YOU EXIT AND ENTER YOUR ROOM..YOU MAY TRIP AND INJURE YOURSELF SINCE THEY HAVE A STEP TO THE FRONT DOOR OF YOUR HOTEL ROOM..........DO NOT STAY HERE FOR ANY REASON AT ALL.. I dont know how a hotel like this can be in business and so poorly maintained. I dont know if they will get new owners, if they havent since I DID NOT STAY OVERNGHT..THEY SURE NEED NEW OWNERS.

Great place to stay. I love the king bed fireplace room, it was clean, the shower was huge and the bed was comfortable. The owners are also very nice and friendly!!

For your money its not a bad hotel. Our flight was terribly deleayed and the owner was very accommodating. Sheets were clean and smelled fresh. Obviously nothing fancy, but again for half the price of nearby hotels it was a good choice for us.

Quiet place

Not fancy.. but is in a great location.. laundry mat across the street.Grocery store, restaurants,ect.Fairgrounds, airport..its all right here.Sweet but strict Indian man runs it.He takes great pride in keeping up with the outside appearance..his flowers and such.Again,I say its not fancy or romantic.though each room has a gas fireplace..only heat source and no a/c. Nice oscillating fan, microwave and tiny fridge.No coffee or ice machine ,but hey.. some of us just cant have it all. Dennys is super close and Grandmas restaurant is nextdoor. So,if a bed,tv and a hot shower is basically what you want, this is the place..His rates are fair enough. It is fairly quiet,slight road noise,walls are thin, its cozy, Maybe quaint for some .Basic and comfortable. I believe that the staff consists of one maybe two depending on the time of year. And you have to ask for anything extra you need..Daily housekeeping is routine, check out is 11:00..

Fireplace inn was the cheapest motel I could find on short notice and for a reason. The rooms are gross. The carpet is old and soiled and needs replacing. There is a smashed bug on the wall that looks like it has been there for a while. The walls are in need a good scrub and a new coat of paint, the beds are the most uncomfortable and hardest beds I have ever laid on- its like sleeping on the ground outside with only a thin mat to protect you from the rocks- and had hair under the sheets and a stain on the blanket that looked like it would come off with a good washing. There was entirely strands of hair in the sink. The air conditioner unit has all sorts of unknown stains on the vent slats and there is a heavy layer of dust in the corners of the room. Not only is the tv from early 90s it doesnt look like theyve dusted it since they got it. The last straw was the roach I found on the toilet seat

For the price it matched I guess. The room was small and almost had too much furniture. The bed was comfortable and clean the fireplace does add a bit of romance to the room. It does make the room warm fast though. There is not AC and they do have a fan in the room. The walls are thin you can hear alot of what is going on next door. Most neighbors had TVs up all night. The fridge was very small barely leftovers for two people could fit but we made it work. I did wish there was an ice machine. The shower had very little pressure and there was no way to plug the tub to bathe. It was a bit dated carpet and what not could definitely use some more outlets. The check-out day we had asked if we could by chance have a late check-out most places have this available. We only wanted an hour just because we had overslept. There was no way this could happen because the cleaning lady. It was a bit disappointing and we rushed out. Overall it wasnt terrible you get definitely what you paid.

Our room was very nasty. There were stains on the carpet, the bed had burn marks and there was holes in the shades.

If I could give this hotel negative 5 stars I would. The walls are paper thin and normally I can handle a regular amount of noise, but I could hear every bit of normal-volume conversation of the tenants next door into the early hours of the morning. - false advertisement of breakfast (there is none) -parking is awful (tiny lot, difficult to navigate in & out of) -filthy rooms (bathroom was okay, furniture had to have been older than me) not sure when the last time a vaccuum was used. -felt unclean just being in the room -customer service was absolute minimal, individual working the desk speaks little English & isn t friendly DO NOT stay here unless you are okay with paying to sleep in a low-maintained room & don t mind loud noises all throughout the night. Just look elsewhere. You ve been warned.

Disgusting hotel, old, dirty, urine stained blanket and sheets, hair on the pillows upon check in, loud and very small, front desk man with one arm doesnt know English enough to help or understand, he just gets frustrated.

Nice place and inexpensive. However, the breakfast place is tiny and the breakfast itself is also modest. But overall a plus.

Had its perks of a cheap price in Monterey but some of the features in the rooms were lacking.

This place had blood (or red food) stains on the wall, feces stains on the holy towels, and bed bugs. I told the owner who just argued with me and said he didnt care because I told him after I left (about the bug bites) and because my husband wasnt the one who complained. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Quiet but old

This place is a DUMP! Dirty, Outdated, Rooms smell like mold. Dirty carpet, bathroom, and the appliances are really outdated. Microwave was dirty. I walked in and out within 10 minutes.

It works but it aint pretty. Dirty floors and walls. Super rough towels. Old TVs. Tiny bit of shampoo+conditioner combo. I mean its ok but its a 2 star place.

It has few rooms, fewer than 20, a variety of rooms with two double beds or one queen bed, and good-sized rooms with clean bathrooms and showers. Quite dated, everything looks a bit worn.

Look, we drove down with little forethought and needed a room that night. We checked around with no luck until we saw this place for $252 now that Im really looking it seems to be outrageously over the usual rate, but we didnt want to have to drive all the way back home come night.

Shower was not working, towels was dirty, there is a lot a moist in the room, room was not clean.... it was cheap but we didnt have the minimum like a shower

BEWARE! AVOID this place. Visited here for one night, which was enough. Our room had utterly filthy carpet, a fridge that was moldy and enclean towels. There was also someones dirty underwear hanging in the shower. This should tell about the cleanliness of this place. I discussed with the owner after the visit and he was well aware of all these things. So it should not come as surprise if people about this place.

The room was very small. Dirty and dusty. The curtains had a huge layer of dust, as did the furniture, the minibar, etc. My daughter, who is allergic, had an attack and had to be taken to the hospital. The breakfast was terrible, served at the reception, and we had to take our things to the room because there was nowhere to sit to eat. The mattress was uncomfortable, it sank when we lay down. Terrible experience!
