Crystal at checkout is absolutely amazing! She is so sweet and courteous not just to me as a customer but to everyone, including the baggers. She is professional even to the rude customer ahead of me, and she was super fast ringing up my items. She also showed me how to clip my coupons on the app so that I could get the sale price. Two times now I have ordered a cake for a birthday online and both times when I went to go pick it up they did not have it. The second time that I went they told me that they didn’t even have it in their system. Despite me showing them my confirmation email. And both times no one had any explanation for anything there were no apologies and I was left to find a solution on my own. They did not try to accommodate me in any way, they did not present me with any alternatives, or options or any way that they could help me out so that I could get the cake for my party. It was like they absolutely did not care. And I don’t understand why the store or specifically this bakery has such a hard time with Customer Service. It is absolutely terrible.
Worst chain grocery store in Monterey County, possibly worst in California, the United States; and the world. Guy opens the self checkout for two people next to me and when i try to walk through with them he tells me it’s closed. Overpriced and understaffed, only came here to get balloons for my son’s birthday tomorrow and they were the only place open. So now they rude people too. Checkout guy was awesome so I do want to give him some props
This Safeway 's customer service closes whenever they feel like it. We had to drive 40 min to go to this Safeway. When you get there and no one is over the counter. and no one can tell you "if someone will return or not. " They don't care about the waiting line. This is the worst Safeway I have ever encountered. And the heavy setting woman is rude and lazy if we are lucky she happened to open the customer service counter. I would give a negative stars if I could.
This is my favorite Safeway! It’s big, well stocked, and organized. They have some superstars working here who really know the store inside and out and care about helping patrons as best as they can. Off the top of my head Crystal and Robert are fantastic! But in general all the employees I’ve interacted with here are very cool!
So I had placed an order through the Safeway app as I am disabled and unable to go grocery shopping on my own. I've never had any issues until today. The person who was supposed to deliver my groceries (through Doordash which I was not aware of) did not make any effort whatsoever to deliver them and brought them back to the store. I did not know any of this until after I tried contacting the driver, to which he or she did not answer. So I drove to the store because I initially thought my groceries had been stolen. I was able to speak to Nicholas, and at first I was not the nicest person, to be completely honest. There's no excuse for my behavior and I know what it's like to work in customer service or work with distraught customers. I just wanted to say how amazing Nicholas was and patient. I did apologize profusely but I just wanted to make a review specifically for him because I feel so bad. I never want to be that customer who makes a scene but recently being diagnosed with a disorder (I will not disclose that information) It's really easy to set me off. Nicholas was beyond professional and handled the situation wonderfully. I was able to get my groceries and he even brought them out to my car for me. It's days like this when people like Nicholas really save the day! I just want to show my sincere appreciation and I hope this somehow reaches him. We need more men like Nicholas working in the world. Thank you again Nicholas!
Update: it has been a month since my initial complaint. I have gotten no resolution. I've contacted the company 4 times and keep getting ran around in circles. It's really sad that this company owns so many stores in the area. While the store is larger, it does not have a large selection of ethnic foods to choose from. When I asked a manager where I could find the Indian food section, I was told that it "might be by the Mexican section." On top of the poor selection, the store has a very unprofessional feel to it; as if the priority is to socialize above all else while at work. Just now, I was standing in the only line open, which was 7 customers long, while listening to three employees talk about Steve Harvey. When I asked if anyone was available to open a second check stand, the employee took everyone behind me to another line. The checkers response was, "Wow, he took all the females for himself and left none for me."
Quick in and out stop. Easy to go in get what you want and finish.
Its always been a rip off, but price gouging people on eggs, just be ause you know some will be dumb enough to pay it, well, thats just wrong.

safeway is nice place to shop but, you guys need to fix your bathroom door locks! i used the restroom there today and i made sure to obviously lock the door. NO! a man opened the door from the outside and I KNOW i locked the door. but i guess that lock is BROKEN and no one had the mindset to put a sign up about it -.- so i tried it myself with locking the door and opening it from the outside. it is broken. i m just startled and feel disgusted ..

This store is horribly managed. Not enough staff. Employees shrug their shoulders because management wont hire. Long lines generally. Combine with gimmick coupons where you must download app and click items on shelf tag. WHY BOTHER ? No longer. Go elsewhere if you had enough.

Many of the food items we buy a lot, on a regular basis, go away never to be seen again. -1 I dk if the owners/management are just absurdly tight or what, but this place never has enough checkers. -1 Typically they have some nice people working there. However, there is a man by the name of William, who for the life of me, I dk why a company who serves the public and relies on them to faithfully spend their hard earned money to sustain their profits, would want him representing them. Hes unfriendly, gruff and has zero social skills. He doesnt express gratitude toward customers shopping there, doesnt respond when customers say thank you, etc, etc. Hes like a zombie. Not a good reflection on your store. -1
The food looks spoiled and it tastes so bad.
You really need to retrain the deli on how to make sandwiches. I am tired of ordering something off the menu and then having to walk them through how to make what s on their menu.

Im a bit disappointed. I picked up some hamburger meat in the value pack. Sale wasnt great but I needed it. The package said it was 3.58lb. The next day I started to separate it into equil portions and it was short. It measured out to 3.27 lb. What the heck. From now on Im going to be weighing meat in the produce department. Talk about price gouging.
Excellent for service, prices and gastronomy
The staff are always very helpful here. We have bought birthday cakes from here for many many years. We ordered a chocolate cake with raspberry filling, which turned out to be fresh raspberries. Very nicely done.

Ordered ribs for the member price of $1.99 per pound on 13 December 2022 at 815 Canyon Del Rey Blvd, Del Rey Oaks, CA location, and the Pickup and Go representative instead substituted different ribs for $13.57 for 3.5lb without informing me of the price difference. Im very disappointed in Safeway. Update 12 February 2023: in-person shopping is good. Still wont try shopping digitally again.

Man, a bit of a drive from CSUMB but I found myself shopping here more than any other grocery store in the area.
This Safeway has a fraudulent and dangerous practice of relabeling expiration dates and selling long since expired food. See pictures of moldy soft pretzels with the expiration of 6/15/23 but underneath that sticker you can see an expiration of 5/16/23. A month difference! This is unfortunate because these soft pretzilla pretzels are really good. I ve been shopping here for 6 years and noticed some troubling signs before but this is ridiculous. I rarely give bad reviews but this warrants a bad review. I bought cannoli chips in March that tasted odd when I bit into them. I looked at the expiration date and it showed an expiration of January. When I came back to this Safeway in April these same cannoli chips labeled expiration January were still being sold. When I looked at the chips in early May I m sure they were the same cannoli chips except now Safeway had just removed the January expiration. Almost nobody was buying them because they had expired. This is bad for the companies that make these products and also bad for Safeway in the long run because I and others will have to question if baked goods have been sitting around for months. I hope you guys don t also do this with meat and dairy or someone may be killed. See pictures as proof.

I have been shopping at the Safeway store since it became a Safeway store. I ve always had pretty good luck and good service, but today was the most pathetic example of customer service and expediency that I ve ever seen by Safeway staff.

Always found what I needed
They have a designated area of Israeli/Jewish/kosher products there which is quite impressive. Apart from this area, they offer a variety of kosher products such as dairy products, breads and more. The prices are a bit expensive.

Consistently understaffed! Sick of waiting in line for 10-20 minutes every time I shop here, regardless of time of day. They have twelve check stands and never open more than three. Avoid if possible.

A store employee (works in self checkout, long grey hair, maybe 5 6 -5 10 ) at the Seaside, CA Safeway said something insulting to me about the way me and my family (including my PTSD service dog) smelled. As a woman of color, that is extremely offensive. She needs cultural competency training ASAP because that is not okay. Thank you for your assistance with this. Over priced!@!
No customer service. Only 1 checker opened. It was 9 item or less line. My basket was full. I asked if another line would open up. The one checker rudely responded, mam, no one will be here to open up for 20-30 minutes. It was 9:00 in the morning. Store was busy and it s the holiday season. Ridiculous. I got out of line and left my cart full in middle of the store
The DMV kiosk there was so sweet to use. Got my 2023 registration and tags in less than 2 minutes. Then off to the deli to pick up some dinner.
Customers had to wait in line way too long. This is inexcusable given were all not yet vaccinated. Poor management...while screwing over the good worker bees. The management refuses to improve. Their dishonesty is unacceptable. Youre still living the lie.

I am very critical of giving out the five star to anybody, but this grocery store has the best selection, the best employees, is the cleanest, the best organized and stocked and its just hands down the best grocery store in the area. apart from a couple of employees that should probably work somewhere else everyone is very nice, very helpful and a pleasure to see. Basic grocery store. I used the delivery service and the store substituted items that were not approved or wanted, and didnt substitute items that were needed and necessary. I spent over an hour waiting on hold for customer service to discuss my order. For the time, hassle and delivery fees you are better off going to the store yourself.
Just tried to call to ask for help with my purchases early Saturday. Experienced reward card issues and asked for a manager. Think I got the grumpy guy in two previous posts by other customers. Zero help and deferred the call to after 9am. He just kinda moaned when I asked how I get help with this issue without coming back to tge store. Must be a common problem. Not so easy of a fix for a disabled person that needed assistance to get there to shop in the first place.

Its Safeway. Clean store plenty of parking, relatively easy to get into the location. They have a good assortment of ready made hot food, a sushi bar, and a sandwich/salad bar. This store has lots of extra amenities, an Amazon pick-up location, a DMV keosk, a pharmacy, a lab for blood work, a Starbucks, and a Wells Fargo Bank.

Pretty average grocery market offering most of the items I find in So. Cal, and those more familiar to the central coast. But a bit short on true Hispanic grocery items, not the fake commercial variety.

What a gorgeous Safeway! And the deli is the cleanest freshest grocery store Deli there is. I have not seen such an exceptional Deli in a grocery store everything is exceptionally clean and appears very fresh. The salads we purchased were delicious. A bit on the pricey side they only reason it didnt get a five-star appointment.
Overall very good, mostly well stocked and friendly workers. Added one of the most flavorful, creamy, tasty and reasonably priced ice cream manufacturers, UMPQUA (cant pronounce it though ). Plain ole Vanilla is top notch. For the chocolate, just need a lightning flavor to pair it with. In stock today. Overall very nice, friendly service, well stocked, parking can be tight and certain times the lines are longer. Only store Ive encountered which has my favorite 4 of 6 Cholula flavors things are pretty much the same, parking and lines are usually time of day dependent. Its the primary goto store. Can take quite a while to pick up prescriptions.
Came in this evening and they had a clearance table by the front door everything was marked down they had some items that didnt have stickers on them but there was a complete box full I took it up to the register and told the clerk about the sale the clerk asked someone to help me out to figure out what the correct price was he had an attitude talking about they have to be stickered then when he had to go find out if they were actually on sale he comes back with an attitude and says oh no we cant sell these theyre actually 30% off but we Have to take them to the back and we have got to tag them first! I have never ever had this problem with the major retail store not honoring their price immediately Elliot needs an attitude check from management really quick. Elliot was a tall elderly bald man with dark brown complexcition. I describe him because if they have two elliotts I wouldnt like the incorrect Elliot to get reprimanded hopefully management sees and actually corrects this issue. Again I have never had this problem when there was a price discrepancy its always just been corrected and Ive been able to check out, it wasnt just so much that... It was more about the body gestures and snappyness that he hadbecause he had to put in the effort and thought he was right and when he wasnt right he didnt want me to have what I originally wanted just to be spiteful. Safeway really sad usually everyone knows good customer service but not Eliot.

My favourite place for organic food
Busy in the evenings. Clean with good access and parking. Ive taken this rating down two stars because theyve had sewage flowing out of the Northwest and north side of the building for several months. Ive spoken to them and theyve done some maintenance but it doesnt appear to be completely fixed. The whole place stinks if youre downwind.
Everything about this place is wrong, God bless the employees or indians fod judge the management for gross accusatory statements judgments and ideas all bias against 9nly one group the impoverished and homeless people who in reality only make up 33% of the counties convicted thieves yet the overwhelming social cliches manage to wage social war against this poor group if mostly mentally Ill people. Stat away unless you are pre law and can stand your ground with a cool 500k bail at the ready
This is much better than the one in Mid Valley Carmel, but lower quality than the one at the mouth of the valley in Carmel Valley.
