I had such a wonderful experience at this restaurant recently! The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with live music playing on a weekday evening—a rare treat. Our server was outstanding: personable, attentive, and clearly someone who takes pride in their work, having been with the restaurant for many years. We enjoyed happy hour with delicious food and incredibly reasonable prices, and the overall vibe made it a night to remember. What truly amazed me, though, happened days later. I realized I had likely left my sunglasses behind and didn’t expect to find them after so much time had passed. But when we returned over 2 weeks later, to my absolute surprise, our server had set them aside, carefully tucked into an envelope by the register. That level of thoughtfulness and integrity is something you don’t often see—and it speaks volumes about the people who work here. Highly recommend this spot—not just for the food and ambiance, but for the genuine kindness that makes it really special.
Service was excellent. The food was good but shoved in a basket. I pulled the printed paper inside the basket with my burger on top out of the basket and placed it on my napkin. Made it much easier to eat. For the prices of a $20 - $25 burgers you think you could afford to put it on the plate. Will not stop there again I will keep driving..
My wife and I stopped by for an early dinner on our way home to Santa Cruz. We've been coming to this restaurant for years, and always looked forward to a good menu with good food. We were appalled to see that it has changed to a burger/pizza/taco place. The food is now served in wire baskets with paper liners. I ordered the Buckaroo Burger (pulled BBQ pork), and found the sauce to be out of a bottle and sickly sweet. My wife ordered the fish tacos and found them to be just average. The salad was the typical jumble of spring greens, but the blue cheese dressing was severely watered down and tasteless. Beer selection was decent, and the live music was also decent (American jazz songbook). If you're okay with mediocre food, this is probably still your place. But we won't be coming back... there's much better food just down the road in Santa Cruz.
Fantastic food. Great vibe. Excellent value. Awesome environment to bring kids, and thirsty Thursday with $5 pizzas is something my kids are always begging for. The kids love finding the hidden pirate toys to earn a free cookie. By far the best family restaurant on the entire pacific coast highway.
We have go here often in the past especailly for my wifes birthday and always had a good time. This time the music was horrible, the table was sticky, water tasted bad like not filtered tap water. Salad tasted chemical with bad dressing, burger was barley OK. Maybe they use cheaper less organic ingredients now and more ready made too sweet and/or salty sauces :( My wifes food was equally bad she said.
Probably my most favorite place to go when I feel like a vacation! Great staff, incredible ambiance, yummy food! Janeen is so warm and friendly, you feel like you arrived home.
Stopped by for an early dinner and the place was astoundingly warm (both in temperature and service). Janeen was wonderful, kind and super appreciative of our requests. Would gladly return! Had the fish strips (better than the ones had in England), the garlic bread ( beautifully stuffed with cheese: I found it a tad bready though) and the stellar Brussels sprouts ( I carried the little that was left as well). Yummy
We've been going to this place for many years, since moving into the area. The location is very beautiful and the restaurant feels very cozy, especially if you get to sit by the large fireplace. Depending on when you're there, they have a live band, which is adds to the great atmosphere. Additionally, the food quality is fantastic. However, in the past three or so years, especially after the covid lockdown, they've gone down the hill with service and prices. We've always had to wait a while for our food, and sometimes it would be close to an hour, but it's gotten a lot worse, to where there would only be a few patrons and it would still take an hour or so to get your food, for no apparent reason. Last time we went there was on a Saturday evening, around 5PM. We ordered burgers with fries and after waiting for about 30 minutes, our waiter came over to us letting us know that they were out of fries. A mainly-burger place that's out of fries... it was busy, but not packed (several tables were still empty) and there was no wait time, so clearly they didn't prepare well. Alright, things happen, no big deal -- I was upset that it took so long to let us know that our orders can't be fulfilled, but let's go ahead and swap those for sweet potato fries. Well, for that to happen, they wanted to charge us for the upgrade on each order to sweet potato fries. Just so that we're clear: We waited for about 30 minutes for us to find out that we won't be getting regular fries, which are included in our meals and in order to get any sides, such as sweet potato fries, we'd have to pay extra. That is on top of their prices rising well above median prices anywhere in the area, like they're some sort of fancy establishment. That's in addition to the mandatory 20% tip. I could deal with the ridiculous price hikes and mandatory tips, because of great food quality and a great location, but not when we're having to wait around for our food for a long time and things like this fries nonsense happens. We're done going there -- it's up to you if you do.
