Quoted one price on the phone. When I called back claimed he doesn't remember, so quoted a much higher price. Had to pay for the part before he would work on the car. On Friday he told me the car would be ready for pick up by Tuesday, latest. Car was not ready until Thursday afternoon. I had to call several times to get updated information. The lady that answered the phone would say "I don't think it'll be ready" and wouldn't even check with the mechanic. I spoke with the owner Thursday morning and he said "wow you're really anxious to get this car...what's the rush". When I spoke with him on Thursday afternoon he told me "you're making this take longer because I have to answer the phone". I mean really rude. I would not recommend this mechanic to anyone. Find somewhere else.
Had my truck sitting at the shop for 3 months only because he was to lazy to order a part, I went out of my way to get it, then he changed the dod sytem but letf the collapse lifters. This place is strait garbage. Safe yourself
Jack's R Better is a great auto shop we have ever taken our cars to. Jack is a very reliable, respectful, responsible, caring, professional, reasonably-priced person. We take all of are cars to him when there is something wrong with our vehicle's. We have never found a shop or a person who is so well worth our time and money for repairs until we found Jack's R Better. My husband loves that he can talk to Jack directly and how Jack let's you know up front about your vehicle issues and/or if the money you spend to fix your vehicle even worth fixing before spending/wasting your money and/or your time and his. THANK YOU JACK'S R BETTER!!
Took our truck there, had clutch replaced end up costing $1160, Jack himself said there is no need to drive it, everything is new and under warranty! We got our truck back and there is still a noise, he said it's in the transmission! Hmmm, if everything is new and no need to test drive then there was a noise when we did! If we would have known this when he had the transmission out we would have paid for the other part! We trusted with our safety but now 1160 later we are still not happy! Would NOT recommend to family or friends! We really feel like we were done so unfairly!
We had bought a used diesel truck, had no idea the condition. Called Jack’s, made an appointment. Knowing we were concerned, not only did he complete the service requested but went through the truck letting us know the condition. Our truck runs great. And we even had a follow up text a few weeks later making sure we were satisfied. And he still answered some questions we had. Great service!!!
We recently moved to Atwater and I needed work done on my truck. I tried Jack’s R Better and was extremely pleased with their service, pricing and positive attitude in general. My wife needed a ride to pick up my truck and the owners wife was immediately willing to pick her up. She commented to me how friendly and nice she was. For years, we have gone to places that we thought were reputable, until we stumbled onto JACK'S R BETTER. They are always friendly and helpful. They do Great work, for a Great price, I had been quoted over $500 to do my rear brakes and they did that for half and everything is great. Now my daughter and my wife, we won't go anywhere else, and we refer all the people we can.
Wasted $1600 just to get half a job completed, AC only blows cold when I m driving now so I guess I better hope I don t run into any traffic or red lights for the summer.

I asked for help with a 5 minute diagnosis and before the woman even knew what was wrong with my truck she was already trying to charge me $112. Yeah right lady. Good luck.

Friendly workers
For starters whoever I was dealing with was extremely rude. I have been in and out of this shop for the past 3 weeks now. I initially had my vehicle towed to this shop after it had stopped running and left me on the side of the road. When I first called the man was extremely rude, but was willing to look at my vehicle dispite not having an appointment wich was honestly nice of them. They ran diagnostics cleaned out throttle body sensor but did not adress the original issue wich was a large evap leak. I assumed they did since The car was drivable after that and was told to drive it around for a bit, to take back to smog. NP, I also had them change my brakes(very pricey). After I had driven my car around. Check engine light pops on. When I checked, it was the the same evap leak code. So I took it back. Ofcourse very rude and not him remembering why or what I was bringing the vehicle back for, but I needed to get this fixed orelse I wouldve taken it somewhere else so I left it. Keep in mind this business will not call to give updates in vehicle so I waited until almost closing time to call and see what was going on? All that they did that day was run a diagnosis. Thats it! No repair nothing. So I took my vehicle because I needed to get to work and back for the week and made an appointment with them to finally fix this and have it smogged. Today was my appointment and when I arrived, again extremely rude and had no clue why I was bringing in the vehicle AGAIN!. Assuming finally my vehicle would be fixed smogged and ready to go. I patiently waited. I called about 30 mins before closing time and all that they had done was look at it! That they would let me know tomorrow.Then what was the point of the appointment? These people dont know what they are doing and are a complete waste of time. I unfortunately have to leave my vehicle there in hopes it will get fixed but will never EVER use.or recommend this place to anyone ever again. Long, but honest review here folks
Beware the shop has poor security. My RV had its catalytic converter stolen while at the shop. The shop owner said he was not responsible and did nothing to make it right.

I got a voucher on Facebook about help with a smog job and he went above and beyond what was needed and even fixed a job another mechanic did previously. I appreciate the help and will be returning for more work on another car for sure. THANKS JACK!
It took nine weeks to do my timing chain and it had to go back because it was leaking oil
Replaced my batteries car doesnt auto stop no more. Got an alignment done still not aligned and makes a loud noise when i turn the wheel especially to the left wont be back thats two strikes cant afford$$$ a third.supposed to fix my tie rod and didnt makes noise when i brought it in it didnt make any noise and my car was kept for a long time now i got to spend money to fix an issue he was suppose to resolve.

This was my first visit to Jacks. Very professional and knowledgeable about my vehicles issue. I called several places that Ive taken my car before and most had no clue on how to detect a fuel smell inside the cab of the car. Jacks had the right tool for the job! So theyre the right shop for my fsamily.
Quit expensive
Have a 1987 Jeep that I have been taking to Jack for a number of years for all sorts of needed service. They have always been very professional and have dealt with some unusual problems and got the job done right. I trust their work and recommend them to anyone needing service.

Probably no one cares about old cars but they get one star on old cars. Took my old carburated toyota there to get them to fine tune it to pass smog. They kept it for nine months till they did it. I got a feeling they were trying to wait me out so they could keep it. Needless to say never went back. This was like eight years ago.
Hi, this is my second time exposing Jacks r better fraud . First time when I wrote a review he called me and told me.to delete a review and he will look at my truck w no extra charge. You may be surprised that after bringing my 2006f250 diesel a dozen time for the same problem and the total amount spent exceeded 10,000 dollars. The truck still leaks heavy amount of oil. Lacks torque cant drive this thing loaded on my farm. Yesterday sadly my mustang stalled on me close to Jacks r better.. I got it started and was able to park on Jacks parking. I thought I should give my Christian brother another chance. He asked me its late for him to check the car..although I knew the alternator is gone, he still told me he has to run diagnostics..about 1:30 PM next day he called me and told me that he found the problem and its alternator, and the price to change it would be $480.00. I called another couple shops in turlock the same repair was quoted at $260.00. I decided to get my car towed there. And he charged me $60.00 for the problem we all knew was an alternator.. but he charged the battery so I paid $60.00 and got my car towed. He was still over priced about $150 to $200 dollars..its dispicable to Conn local customers. Please call couple other places before you bring your car here..

We had an engine tapping all the sudden, Hyundai santa fe Jack did some research and found it was under warranty from the dealer! Saved me $$$ and the dealership gave us a rental! Thanks again! I will be back.
Fast and fair repairs.
I bought this car to commute, a Mercedes that had some miles left on it. I stopped to get gas and the timing chain jumped and stripped the gears on the pulley. I thought the gas was bad but didn t want to chance it so I had it towed to Jack s. He gave me the news and offered me 2 fixes, I knew the metal had circulated through the motor so it was toast. Jack got a replacement motor for a 05 Mercedes C230 Kompressor with only 61,000 on it installed $3,700. With a 6 month, 6,000 mile warranty. Thanks Jack, the supercharger works great too
Jacks failed the smog test on my Toyota and said they would charge more than $700 to fix the smog system, so I got a second opinion from Merced Smog Center and it passed without a problem. Be cautious if dealing with JACKs R BETTER! Fred P Atwater

Despite being really busy they fit my oil change on the day I inquired and finished it early!!

Jacks did a great job with my Monte carlo Its a 86 running with original carb so if your car doesnt pass smog and if you need help Jacks will take care of you. Not all shops like working with carburaters I was turned down by a few. Great work great price cant go wrong!

Ive been taking my car and truck to Jacks R Better for over 20+ years. I wouldnt trust anyone other than Jacks with my vehicles. Been the other shops only to find myself coming back to Jacks to fix to problem the other shops messed up. Had Jacks check over my truck before traveling to Tennessee and back my truck ran like a champ with no problems. Thanks Jack for all your service and your knowledge staff.
Always does what he says. Never have to go back fix things twice.
They do good work but your going to be paying a lot for it. They made me pay for a set of head gaskets but they only used 1. Also I paid to have a exhaust manifold bolt extracted that they broke off. They will charge you dealership prices, easy enough to just go to the dealership instead.
